To wonder where all the average children are?

I am beginning to wonder if my DS is the only average child in the UK.
Listening on the school playground and reading here on mums net there appear to be two groups of children the super genius level 2a by the start of year one and the SEN children.
Am I being unreasonable to think my DS is not actually only child plodding on, making satisfactory progress in some areas and not much in others? Surely other neuro typical but not very bright kids still exist?

I always chuckle at the book band boasting.

Like a thread may be about School Sport's Day and someone replies "Oh my daughter (book band colour gold) is really good at the egg and spoon race.

One of mine is high average no matter what subject or level he is in. It has nothing to do with his smarts and all to do with his willingness to complete and hand work in. He does what is required to get by.

ScallyFloss Dammit I thought I'd got away with it. Foiled again!

Wonder if changing name to "My8YearOldHasAReadingAgeOf12YouKnow" would be subtler.....

Plot any ability in a normal distribution and you get the bulk of children in the middle and only a handful at each of the two tails. By definition, most cluster around the average! Here endeth the stats lesson.

DS is completely average. Has been since the date of his conception. Mind you, he's only 6mo so who knows what the future holds but at the moment he's just doing everything at the time he should be.

Always makes me smile to see the pushy mums on FB bragging about how their 7 month old can sit up unaided, isn't she advanced etc etc.

However, he is waaaay above average in the looks department, but what can I say, I view him through a mother's eyes Grin

Ha ha-that reminded me of a sketch from the Mary Whitehouse Experience (anyone remember that?) where David Baddiel talks about his pushy mum who can be heard saying, "Help, help! My son-the Oxford University graduate-is drowning!"

"Neither did she state that the two can occur in conjunction, hence my post to point it out."

I do remember that, but not from MWE. That's going to annoy me until I remember where I saw him do it....

WowOoo · 05/07/2012 18:41

Grin LetsEatGrandma - remember that one. Spot on!

Teacher described my DD's level at school as 'solidly average'.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 05/07/2012 18:49

I would wonder where this info is coming from. I was never told what NC level my dc were at until they did their end of KS1 SATs. And in my Y1/R class, parents aren't told what NC level their dc are working at either.

mumblecrumble · 05/07/2012 18:51

Reckon my DD is average. I was thinking about it the other day.... And MAN I love her.

This is her newest joke she made up today:

Why did the cow cross the road? To get to the mooooosic shop.

I also like that she goes to an average school :)
