So the house opposite is decorated with US paraphenalia and 5 minutes ago started up with fireworks - they only have a tiny backyard and it sounds like a war zone. both my kids are now awake and freaked out

am i being a misery guts or are they selfish fuckers?

(disclaimer - i have no issue with their nationality)

Are you in the US or the UK?

kittyandthefontanelles · 04/07/2012 22:40

You must love November.

paradisechick · 04/07/2012 22:41

If it's not a nightly occurrence then grin and bear it!

SerendipitousHarlot · 04/07/2012 22:42

You're being a misery guts. It's their national holiday.

madwomanintheattic · 04/07/2012 22:43

Ach, wee kidlets are always scared of fireworks. They grow out of it.

We had a bonfire night party here. (Canada) dh nearly got arrested by the bylaw officer, because apparently you need a permit.

We would have been fine, except the drunk next door started letting off bear bangers, which terrified everyone, even the ones who were oohing and aahing over the fireworks.

EverybodysDoeEyed · 04/07/2012 22:44

I'm in the UK

They probably have fireworks every 2 months - sometimes as late as midnight.

We are in a densely populated area so the fireworks may as well be being let off right outside my front door. DS was convinced there was a war going on outside!

Still going on but on past performances it shouldn't last more than 20 mins.

And I don't mind November!

What are Bear bangers?

Ok so I'm BU. In my defence I have a 2yo who I am struggling to get a full nights sleep from and tonight started so well!!

Madwoman- Kidlets is a lovely word. May I share it, please?

kittyandthefontanelles · 04/07/2012 22:52

YABU but for understandable reasons!

Frontpaw · 04/07/2012 22:55

Oh - I just heard banging from Beverly Notting Hill direction. It didn't cross my mind what it was for. My Google didn't even have a special image on it today.

5Foot5 · 04/07/2012 23:08

If they are American then YABU - let them enjoy themselves.

If they are not then YANBU - WTF should an English person celebrate 4th July?

EverybodysDoeEyed · 04/07/2012 23:11

I have assumed they are American as it would be weird otherwise!

Feeling a bit calmer now as DS is asleep and DD isn't asking for milk so I might be able to get her back to sleep without it!!

They are celebrating the discovery of the Higgs boson. This matters more than your children's sleep for one night.

FairPhyllis · 05/07/2012 00:16

They are probably making the most of being able to buy fireworks in the UK - in many states you cannot buy them (or sparklers even) for private use.
