Hi,

My son is due to start school in September this year. Its all sorted, today he went to an induction thing and i got handed a form about which vaccinations he had/hadnt had,and just general health questions.

He hasnt been vaccinated since the ones at 16 weeks,so no mmr.My other 2 children havnt been vaxed at all.Im not asking for opinions on whether this is right as i have made a well informed choice and its something i have thought about for a long time and feel strongly about,I know theres not really a law about kids being vaxed to go to school but i just wondered if anyone knew if the school could "make a fuss" about it,or if anyone has any expereience of this.

Until a couple of months ago were going to home educate so it wasnt an issue, but obviously now hes going so just wanted to ask.

Thank you for the link, GrahamTribe

That's not an easy bedtime read LOL!

I wasn't suggesting that OP was right / wrong to vaccinate. Just a bit ambitious not to expect a debate on that topic in AIBU.

Alright then...

BeatriceBean · 04/07/2012 20:45

I wish schools would insist. I'd certainly rather send my child to a school that did.

allmouthnotrousers · 04/07/2012 20:45

Sidge it happened in West Yorkshire within the last 8 years.

GrahamTribe · 04/07/2012 20:46

I wish they would too, Beatrice, because I see nothing at all wrong with an increase in the number of home educated children. Grin

littlemisssarcastic · 04/07/2012 20:48

I agree with BeatriceBean.

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 04/07/2012 20:49

Soozy - I agree

It would be the shortest "AIBU" ever.

OP YABU to use AIBU to ask a question that screams out for opinions rather than facts. The fact is, your children don't have to be vaccinated. Thread over.

Sorry to be thread policey

youmeatsix · 04/07/2012 20:51

I had to provide proof my children had been vaccinated to both nursery and primary school for all 3 of my children, we are in Scotland

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 04/07/2012 20:52

... except in Scotland

SoozyWoozy · 04/07/2012 20:53

youmeatsix would your DCs have been denied entry to nursery / school without vaccination?

mosschops30 · 04/07/2012 20:54

YANBU to wonder.
the answer is not you dont
But IMHO you bloody well should

thisisyesterday · 04/07/2012 20:55

she isn't asking for opinions.. she is asking if her children have to be vaxed to go to school, which they don't.

GrahamTribe · 04/07/2012 20:57

youmeatsix, is that Scotland-wide or only in your/certain local authority areas?

Panzee · 04/07/2012 20:57

Asking "AIBU" does invite an opinion.

littlemisssarcastic · 04/07/2012 20:57

thisisyesterday "she isn't asking for opinions.. she is asking if her children have to be vaxed to go to school, which they don't"

unfortunately

Sirzy · 04/07/2012 20:58

Posting in AIBU is going to get opinions whether you want them or not. If she simply wanted to be told "no" then perhaps the vaccinations board would have been a more sensible place to post.

GrahamTribe · 04/07/2012 20:58

youmeatsix, see what you've done now? Caused yourself no end of questions! :)

Sexolette · 04/07/2012 20:59

Good job that most of us vaccinate our children so you don't have to.Hmm

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 04/07/2012 21:00

or Chat

or Primary Education

or, ooh, I don't know, by googling it

silverfrog · 04/07/2012 21:00

thankfully there is no obligation to have your children vaccinated to enter nursery/pre-school/school.

I have never encountered a problem with either of my dds - dd1 is partially vaccinated, d2 not at all.

There is usually a health form, including questions about illnesses/vaccinations/dates etc - I have always filled these in, and had no further questions. It isn't even remembered, particularly - when dd2 had mumps recently, the school secretary (small school) hadn't remembered her unvaccinated status when I called her in sick.

Grin graham

I have survived many a vaccine thread before now.

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 04/07/2012 21:07

I think we can all go home now. Nothing to see here.Grin

SoozyWoozy · 04/07/2012 21:08

Genuine question for parents here with unvaccinated children:

If your child was exposed to Measles, would you then take the vaccine which is offered by the HPA?
