AIBU in not wanting to be a directress?

I'm a 30 something man. I've looked at the websites of 2 Montessori nurseries and found out they call their staff "Directresses". Are they trying to keep men out of their businesses or are they just thick?

What like "Airhostess"?
I think it is just what they call the collective. Like "actors" being the collective noun for a group of actors and actresses.
Maybe they haven't had any men apply yet?
Why not contact them and ask?

In my brain, it looks like they are people physically made of dresses.

Jus googled and they call their male staff Directors. I think it's odd they distinguish the females more!

Weird. I'm a director and would find being called a directress odd.

I mean, it's pretty obvious from my name that I'm female.

are you looking for employment there? If so i dont think the name of the role is that important, rather then job you will be doing and the satisfaction it brings you.
Personally i think nurseries and primary schools could benefit from more male teachers and carers so go for it if you have the skills!

Well there you go, they call the men "Directors" and use Directresses as a collective.
I think I would rather be a director than a Directress.

Bizarre. The Academy Awards persist with the word 'actress', but even they deem directors to be beyond gender.

I would hate to be a 'directress'. It just sounds weird and wrong and sexist. What the hell is wrong with males and females being directors fgs.

DS2 went to a Montessori nursery for a while, we (and he) were meant to call staff by Mr/Miss FirstName, eg Miss Fiona. Was weird and I ended up just using their first names. The owner was a fruit loop but not sure if she described herself as a Directress though!

Sounds ridiculous to me. I think you should apply, then lobby to make the change once you're in!

The job advert they placed advertise for a Montessori Teacher - male or female.

I'm pretty sure that accounts for everybody! I always assume jobs are for males or females(Except exempt jobs, but that's always mentioned), because it's illegal otherwise.
