To not be able to make a decision (OLYMPIC RELATED)

Gumps · 02/07/2012 10:19

So lucky us, we have 4 tickets for the Athletics which includes the Mens 200m final (come on Bolt get your act together).
The plan was always to take DS1 (5) and DS2 (3) as I was under the impression that DD (9mo) was not allowed to go. However now they have changed the rules and she can come, provided she is securely strapped to one of us.
So dillema is now what to do. Do I take all 3 which is what I feel I should do? Sport is huge in our house and I am a sucker for nostalga/historic events. I will feel awful in the future when the boys can say Olympics I was there and DD slams the door in my face aged 14 saying you don't love me you didn't take me to the Olympics (my mother has warned me of this scenario).
Do I just take the boys?
Do I take none of them?
I have tried in vain to get Olympic park tickets but all gone. I thought I could fool them into thinking they had had their turn and then take some friends to the Athletics.
Other points to consider are that we live in Richmond (not too far to travel but will still need pushchair which will have to be Phil & Teds with all 3), want to go and soak up atmosphere at Olympic Park and our session is 1830 to 2230.
Someone make a decision for me please!

Crikey - not for anything would I endure my dc's (5, 4 and 7mo) at the events I'm going to (athletics/swimming/gymnastics/rowing). I know they'll ask me when they're older but that's life. They would hate it and moan the whole time not get the most out of it.

In fact, I'm quite excited about the child-free time Grin

ReelAroundTheFountain · 03/07/2012 21:00

vj32 you can take food and drink in just not "excessive amounts"

maxtrue · 03/07/2012 21:06

ReelAroundTheFountain - can I ask how did you manage to get tickets to all those events????

I tried so hard and got jack all as did all my friends - I actually dont know wnayone who got tickets - did you go for the higher priced seats?

Gumps - leave the all the kids at home and sell me the 2 tickets Envy

NovackNGood · 03/07/2012 21:24

Have you ever sat in a stadium seat for hours and been comfortable? Yet now you want to do that and have a baby strapped to your front and possble being bumped as people in the row come and go all afternoon long just so in the future you can tall a teenager that they were there when there is no possible way they will have any recollection and the only response you will get to telling them will be .¨whatever¨

Leave the child at home and go with the rest and have a great day without having to cart around baby paraphernalia and baby etc.

I certainly will not be taking any babies with me for all the tea in china.

ReelAroundTheFountain · 03/07/2012 21:54

maxtrue I also got zero in the proper ballot last year. Not one ticket despite applying for £4k worth! I got most of those in the last few weeks through the official site - they've done a couple of extra ticket releases. I followed a couple of people on twitter who are basically ticket hunters and learnt lots of tricks so I could nab the tickets quickly (stuff like knowing the codes for the events etc) On top of that, my brother is obsessed with getting tickets and he's got some from european official sellers.

I am so lucky I know, I had utterly given up. There is still a thought that Locog (official UK site) has 300k more tickets to sell but time is running out Confused

forevergreek · 04/07/2012 07:10

I don't know anyone else either but we got 3 sets of tickets in the first round!

Glittertwins · 04/07/2012 07:37

I know of a couple of others who also got swimming in the first allocation but not the same date as us.

captainbarnacle · 04/07/2012 07:40

Imgoing on my own with a 12m old, 5yr old and 3yr old, but we're only doing morning sessions of swimming, judo and athletics. I'm not planning on taking a buggy but I'll have a think!

Ragwort · 04/07/2012 09:15

Captain - are you mad? Do you seriously think a 3 yr old and a 12m old will 'enjoy' the experience? And how much will you realistically get to see of the events. Have to be honest (and I know this will be unpopular Grin) but I wouldn't want to be sitting next to one adult looking after three very young children !!!

Nervousfirsttimer · 04/07/2012 09:43

What ragwort said....Grin

ajandjjmum · 04/07/2012 09:48

Remember some of the sessions are only for a couple of hours, so you wouldn't necessarily be sitting for hours in stadium seating Novack.

We were lucky with tickets, and we're now planning our summer holiday in London! Grin

PeppermintCreams · 04/07/2012 09:51

Leave the baby at home, but also book tickets to the football matches and take baby to that. Take photos of baby in front of all the Olympic stuff. If it's mentioned when they are older, swear blind that she came to both events, and was just sleeping on daddy's back. Don't you remember boys?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 04/07/2012 10:04

What are the rules on bags?
I'd heard that no bags whatsoever were allowed.

But maybe my friend is winfing me up?

CaurnieBred · 04/07/2012 10:59

See here for details of what you can and cannot take in.

Trills · 04/07/2012 11:04

Door-slamming daughter can get a grip.

You will all have a much nicer time if baby stays with grandparents or someone.

captainbarnacle · 04/07/2012 13:34

No, not mad. And going to the Paralympics. And as has been said, sessions are only 2-3 hours long. I wouldn't take them to evening sessions. And there's not much of an alternative to leave them with.

The Olympics isn't an adult only zone.

choceyes · 04/07/2012 13:53

The 9 month old will just fall asleep in the sling eventually. It will be fine. Personally I wouldn't even take the buggy if the tube stops are close by and your dh could carry the 3yr old on his shoulders if he can't walk. I would definitely do it!

zlist · 04/07/2012 14:09

Personally, I wouldn't take any child under the age of 7 to an event like that - but I'm all for a easy life!
On that basis I don't think adding an extra child in a sling would make much of a difference as you have already decided to take young children with you.

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 04/07/2012 14:13

I am taking my 2 and 4 year olds to see the wrestling! I think it will be a nice experience for them and they'll be able to look back and say they were there. That's a morning session though and we'll be 4 adults to 2 children.

I'm also going to athletics and hockey which are evening sessions and I'm leaving the children with grandparents for those.

Nancy66 · 04/07/2012 14:22

Why the hell are people taking 5s and under to the Olympics? They will be bored shitless, you won't get to see any of the action and your kids will annoy other spectators. Get babysitters and give the tickets to people who will appreciate it more.

MAYBELATERNOWIMBUSY · 04/07/2012 15:37

yup, can vividly remember myself at 9mo thinking "damn, no olympics this year , what a bloody swizle ! blighted my life then and forever more!

forevergreek · 04/07/2012 17:14

Why will they be bored? Both 1 And 2 year old here will be fine

They sit quietly in restaurants, on planes, at theatre shows. Why shouldn't they?

The atmosphere will be great

Nancy66 · 04/07/2012 17:21

the atmosphere will be totally lost on a 1 year old.

Bit of a difference between a kid behaving in a restaurant for - what - an hour to sitting still at a sporting event for hours on end in a noisy stadium where they haven't the first clue what's going on.

Glittertwins · 04/07/2012 19:52

Are you bitter that you didn't get tickets?
I'll spend my money on how I se fit thanks. My two 4 year olds are perfectly capable of sitting in a restaurant for considerably more than one hour and have been brought up with a lot of sport. Wht wouldn't they enjoy it?

NovackNGood · 04/07/2012 20:12

So many people in the UK do seem bitter about the olympics and not having tickets. I've gotten to the stage of not mentioning I'll be there anymore. There are still plenty of tickets for the football if they are desperate to take part in the games.
