To not go to Sports Day?

Just a quick aibu in not going to my 6yo sports day because of her disgraceful behaviour this morning?
She has hit me, scratched me, refused to get dressed for school, had a tantrum because i wouldn't let her have a cake before school and has point blank refused to put her shoes on.
Finally i have managed to get her dressed and ready for school but her behaviour has really worn me down and i think not turning up to sports day would be a good punishment as she has been very naughty lately and its really wearing thin.
Aibu and should i think of a different punishment?

Think of a different punishment!

Did you warn her while she was misbehaving that if she carried on then you wouldn't come to sports day.

If you didn't, then you should definitely go to sports day.

If you did say that, then it is more justified (but perhaps still a little bit mean).

Are you being serious???

GreatBallsofFluff · 02/07/2012 08:15

A different punishment definitely.

If you don't go all that will happen is that she'll think you're withholding love from her. It's been a bad morning for you but it also sounds awful for her. Without excusing her behaviour it sounds like she is probably quite anxious about Sports Day, and took it out on you. Of course that's not right, but if you didn't then turn up to support her you I imagine her fears would increase.

I think you've made the right decision to go, and I hope you both enjoy the day.

pumpkinsweetie · 02/07/2012 09:24

Thankyou Marymary, i think you may be right as she had calmed down by the time i had took her into school.
It must have been nerves, i never liked sports day myself as a child so i should have realisedBlush.

How old is she?? If my son bit or scratched me I would not be excusing his behavior on nerves!! Sorry but if that is the way she reacts when she is nervous things are going to get a whole lot worse.

You say her behavior has been bad lately so that doesnt sound like a nervous reaction to sports day to me.

Go to sports day but def punish her for her behavior towards you!

Dropdeadfred · 02/07/2012 09:28

I'd never withhold my presence from my. Hold just because they had had a bad morning or been naughty. At 6 she would not be emotionally mature enough to deal with that rejection.
Plus my dd fell badly at sports day last week and needed lots of cuddles - how would you feel if you had deliberately stayed away?

pumpkinsweetie · 02/07/2012 09:34

She is 6yo, she has always been a 'naughty' child but this morning it being monday and me rushing around after my other dcs she decided to throw a strop about not wanting to get dressed, not eat breakfast, scratch and hit me-she does this a lot, im used to it but i was annoyed she decided to play up on a monday morning when i have to be organised to get my 3yo into nursery by 8:30.
I have tried confiscating toys, sending her to her room etc but when she gets into one of these moods she just carries on regardless hence me coming up with the pumishment of not turning up which i was clearly bu.
I am going to sports day as i don't want to miss her special day
I am going to talk to her tonight about her behaviour being unacceptable and set up a reward sticker chart for her

Yes, my son used to love sticker charts and responded quite well to them if we were consistant with it.

Sounds like she is naughty and you have just got used to it but seriously (and I know easier said than done) you do need to sort it out or she will just get worse. My DS might get a bit silly sometimes but he would never ever use violence against me, and if he did he would be severely punished.

Enjoy sports day :)
