im not going ot do this, as im a worrier, just wondering if it is actually a risky thing to do

would there actually be any risk going n rollercoasters at such an early stage, obviuosly i could see there would be from when it is a actually fetus or baby, say from maybe 8-12 weeks, incase it got suahed but if it is only the size of a poppy seed or something is it risky?

I went on the waltzer and another fair ride the day before my due date with DS1. I was 19 and thought it might make me go into labour. Blush He is fine, but being more aware of potential problems in pregnancy these days, there's no way I would do that now. If I hadn't had problems in my pregnancies now that made me too paranoid to do even most normal things, I would probably go to a fair as early as 6 weeks though, given that both my GP and midwife told me when pregnanct with DS3 that horseriding was fine early on and even if I fell off the chances of it causing a miscarriage were negligable.

already explained why i'm asking, because i'm intersted in the reasons why.

and alot of them have been explained in here.

I knew exactly when I conceived (both pregnancies I had extremely strong/painful implantation pains). I was on holiday at the time in LA - doing the Disney parks and told my DH I couldn't go on the fast rides/roller coasters etc. DH thought I was a bid mad - how could I know?! - took a test when I came back and was indeed pregnant.

If I know I'm pregnant, I wouldn't go to theme parks to go on those type of rides

phantomnamechanger · 02/07/2012 14:50

I wouldn't do it (felt sick enough through pg without rides!!)

lots of pregnancies end in mc before 12 weeks, some even later, for reasons known or sometimes never discovered - imagine youd been on rides when you were pg then mc'd a while later on - even if the rides did not cause it, youd wonder for ever whther they had played a part

dont understand someone I know who thought it was ok to go skiing when 14 weeks pg

oreocrumbs · 02/07/2012 19:44

Kirsty, I'm not sure if the ligaments loosen by 6 weeks, I was thinking more of pregnancy in general when I wrote that. They might but I'm not sure!

AKMD · 02/07/2012 19:49

thenightsky you do realise that Alton Towers has fast things called rollercoasters and log flumes now? No more carousels and boat swings of yore!

WhiteWidow · 02/07/2012 20:11

On Rita there g force is extreme, it has broken arms when people have gone against advice and stuck their arms out before it shoots off.

That's a big risk

GnocchiNineDoors · 02/07/2012 20:14

Havent read the replies above yet but I will.

I tested positive the day before I had arramged a trip to AT. I still went, did the waterpark, two days in the park and went on every ride except Oblivion which I dont enjoy.

I was around 4weeks pg, and reasoned to myself that at that small, the embryo was so well protected that it would be fine
And it was.

Dd is 6.5mo.

WhiteWidow · 02/07/2012 20:16

Whilst I'm not against anyone going on rides whilst pregnant, it's their choice, I don't really see the point of these anecdotes along the lines of 'well I did and DC is x months old'

I know people who drank cider and popped pills through their pregnancies, babies are fine. Doesn't mean it's right.

OAM2009 · 02/07/2012 20:18

Congrats OP! Grin

IMHO, I imagine Alton Towers or similar think in simple terms of pregnant / not pregnant without going into how pregnant you are. Therefore, warning signs are for ALL pregnant women, regardless of stage.

And, you never know. I was due to fly back and forth to Australia within a month when I found out I was five weeks pregnant. Saw the doctor, who checked her books and said yes, flying is fine in the first trimester. Had an MC at 10 weeks, which required a D&C. Sad Sad Sad

GnocchiNineDoors · 02/07/2012 20:21

WhiteWidow, the anecdotes ARE relevant. The OP asks if it is ridiculous to go on the rides at 6wks pg.....the anecdotal posters are answering the post. "No, I dont think its ridiculous, I did it".

RagamuffinAndFidget · 02/07/2012 20:24

I went to Thorpe Park at about five weeks pregnant with DS2. I didn't know I was pregnant and went on pretty much everything I shouldn't have done - as in, all of the big rollercoasters, even the one that shoots off at 80mph. DS2's first birthday is in four weeks time! So I guess it's possible to go on rollercoasters very early and still have a baby, but I wouldn't have done it had I known I was pregnant.

WhiteWidow · 02/07/2012 20:30

gnocci we'll just have to agree to disagree. Just because a few people have done something and it's been fine does not mean it is safe and foolproof.

WhiteWidow · 02/07/2012 20:31

I also think that the post about African women using a fair ground ride as an abortion method has more standing than anecdotes.

freerangelady · 02/07/2012 20:43

I have an extremely physical job that requires lots of bouncing around in tractors. I was really worried about this but midwife reassured me that baby is extremely well protected and the risk is actually to me via injuring myself due to stretched ligaments rather than bouncing.

But then bouncing is different to being upside down. Rides are also a choice whereas a job, especially when it's your own business is different.

thenightsky · 02/07/2012 21:37

AKMD aye, very true. Worst was the Black Hole when I went.

Speaking as someone who had a MC at 12 weeks, you will always look for something that could have caused it, you will always look for a reason (for me I initially tried to blame the pool evacuation I'd been involved). If you went on a roller coaster knowing u r pregnant and then had a MC weeks or even months later you will always be left wondering "what if I hadn't done that..." you will regret it for ever more even if the MC had nothing what-so-ever to do with the roller coaster. I would not take the risk

MammaTJ · 02/07/2012 21:47

Having lost babies at 6, 8 and 6 weeks, no way would I knowingly take the risk!!

Kept others that I was 'demanding to be treated like china carrying' though.

sheepsgomeeping · 02/07/2012 22:26

My friend lost her first baby at eight weeks the day after going to Alton towers. It could have been coincidence but she always blamed herself afterwards.

Why knowingly risk it?
