about the rice??

When we order a curry, DH always wants to not order the rice. He argues it's a pointless thing to pay for when we have it in the house and can do it in ten minutes in the microwave.

My argument is that if you're ordering takeout, the point is you don't have to cook anything or wash up. It's a little luxury. Cooking your own rice defeats the object and I'm a lazy cow

YANBU!

AnyoneForTennis · 01/07/2012 20:48

Microwaving isn't cooking!

kittythames · 01/07/2012 20:49

YANBU!

Well, unless he's going to cook it and do the washing up as well. He can do the plates at the same time, while you chill with a glass of wine!!

Ruudiluca · 01/07/2012 20:50

Shock it's like bolegnese without the pasta! Grin
Seriously though if my DH said that to me I would smile sweetly and say "how sweet of you to offer to cook the rice and wash up the pan, I will answer the door and get the curry when the they knock"

kittythames · 01/07/2012 20:50

Oops, sorry.

While you chill with a guinness!

BonkeyMollocks · 01/07/2012 20:50

YANBU.

edwinbear · 01/07/2012 20:51

YANBU. Rice from the curry house usually has lots of delicious little bits in it that you don't get in Uncle Bens.

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 01/07/2012 20:56

Home cooked plain rice is no where near as tasty as special fried/garlic/mushroom/chilli rice from the curry house! I'd be Shock if anyone suggested cooking on a curry night in my house. I guess if your DH wants to cook his own and wash up his own pots then that's weird ok, but you should still get to order whatever you like, rice included.

enimmead · 01/07/2012 21:00

Take out rice can be expensive - whereas homecooked rice is cheap and easy to make.

On the other hand, rice can be much nicer as a takeout.

I can see his point of view and yours.

BasilDonna · 01/07/2012 21:04

I always cook my rice when ordering a takeaway.
Usually ready just by the time the door bell rings.

shrimponastick · 01/07/2012 21:07

I sometimes cook some extra rice.

However, we have three big DS who eat a ton - so it is worthwhile. Plus i am always on a diet, so don't want any extra oil or whatever in my miniscule portion!!

Tend to order a few rices, some chapatis and a couple of naans - as well as the extra home boiled basmati.

GnocchiNineDoors · 01/07/2012 21:11

If I order an indians, the rice is included in the price.

Shame, as I have chips.

Tell me your address and I will post all the excess rice to your DH.

Your DH IBU to not fully embrace the wonderfulness and completeness of a takeaway.

Frikadellen · 01/07/2012 21:12

if youy order plain rice get some microwave one and do that in 2mins and then Y hb is NBU

I you like pillau rice or anyspecial friend then YANBU and your dh is being weird

personally I order the rice

McHappyPants2012 · 01/07/2012 21:15

never even thought about it, the whole point is not to cook and do dishes.

NettoSuperstar · 01/07/2012 21:19

YANBU.
If you're having takeaway, you get the whole lot delivered, that's the point.
I love cooking, I live for cooking, I try many new recipes every week and have a food blog, but if I want takeaway, I want it all brought to my door.

wanderingalbatross · 01/07/2012 21:23

DH does this too, although we have a rice cooker and dishwasher so not much extra in the way of clearing up. I think it's a bit odd, but then I always order nan instead :D

Krumbum · 01/07/2012 21:51

My dp does this if we have some microwave rice in, why is everyone assuming the op's dp is expecting her to cook it? I'd think if he wanted it then he would cook obviously?

sashh · 02/07/2012 04:56

I found it really odd when I moved to Oxford that rice was something you paid for at the take away. I was used to the rice or naan or chappati with your curry.

shrimponastick · 02/07/2012 07:36

At our takeaway you get boiled rice, chips or chapatis included in the price of a dish. Anything other than that is extra.

I did visit a takeaway in a different town (small - had one chinese, one indian and a pizza place so no competition) and ended up paying a substantial amount more for the same we would get at home.Wasn't that nice either.

That is a benefit of living in W Yorks - more choice of a good takeaway!!!

lovebunny · 02/07/2012 08:12

rice chips and a naan. so what if you throw a lot away? its a treat, a one off.
