Watching a programme on ITV iplayer thing about orthodox jews. They have an elderly man whose family were gassed at Belzec. He was very emotionally describing how his family got off the train, went straight to the gas chamber and then.... David Tennant eulogising about the wonder of TIVO. It happens again about 15 minutes later on exactly the same topic - depiste them having been talking about lots of jolly topics in the interim

AIBU to think that if you are going to advertise, do it at another point rather than straight after the elderly Jewish man describing how his family were murdered by the Nazis.

You're overthinking this. Do you seriously imagine there's a department of 'Not Running Questionable Adverts That May Clash With Tragic Stories'?

OhDearNigel · 27/06/2012 22:50

surely someone thinks where the ads are going ?

I have drunk a whole bottle of cava and am in a rather tipsy frame of mind which may account for the overthinking...

ITV has ads yes? So, erm, what advert would have been appropriate to the subject of the programme?

waterlego6064 · 27/06/2012 23:08

I get what you're saying Nigel. They could have timed it better, couldn't they?

Latara · 27/06/2012 23:14

OhDearNigel - for some reason the ad breaks ALWAYS seem to cut into the most tragic / emotional / crucial / scary moments of any film, drama or documentary. Really irritating!!
(Poor old man whose family got murdered in such a horrible way, that's tragic & YANBU for not liking inappropriate adverts in the ad breaks.)

OhDearNigel · 28/06/2012 14:45

PvL, there was a lot of lighthearted, comedy material in the programme. Surely it's not beyond the realms of probability that they could have cut the programme to ensure that the ad break came after the bloke laughing about teh absurd cost of the etrog fruit or in teh middle of the Bar Mitzvah celebrations ? Not after an old man had been talking about his dreadful experiences in a labour camp

PandaWatch · 28/06/2012 14:48

I'd imagine the reason why it was done in the programme was to give a chance for reflection during the ad break. Would it not have been just as bad to go from that scene to one of the more light hearted/comical ones?

That's disgusting Cogito.

Cognito Shock Grin

Tee2072 · 28/06/2012 15:10

If it is like American Ad buys, it's bought in 30 second slots X minutes into the show. Content isn't considered.

And Grin cogito.

Oh dear I got deleted.

me too!

CogitoErgoSometimes · 28/06/2012 15:36

At the risk of being deleted again, as the subject was 'tasteless juxtaposition', I suggested that a more tasteless one would have been an advert for a well-known utility provider.

Tee2072 · 28/06/2012 15:46

Oh please. I'm Jewish. What Cogito said was funny. Which guideline does that break?

corlan · 28/06/2012 15:47

Gotcha. Funnily enough I had the same thought.

It's censorship gone mad!!!!!

WhiteWidow · 28/06/2012 15:59

Cogito hahaha!

WhiteWidow · 28/06/2012 15:59

And OP, you're overthinking.

MammaTJ · 28/06/2012 18:00
