It's not like i AMA pedant and I don't correct spelling and grammar nor nuffing
AND I a am a sucker for a bit of street slang fam, yew get me?
But I was at a training day yesterday and I wanted to run out streaming because of they way a few people where speaking.
One of them seemed nice but I wouldn't know because I could understand what the bloody hell she was on about
'so basically it's not right because like if some was to say like da da da da and then the other would like say da da da da'

She wasnt the only one. Older people were doing it too
Instead of giving actual examples of things, using actual words, they would use da da da da instead!
So not 'if mrs Jones was concerned about the welfare of an 8 year old boy....'
It's 'so if Mrs Jones was thinking da da da da about an 8 year old....'

Please someone tell me what's going on.....

I think it's lazy. It annoys me. I feel old when I point it out though, I'm only in my early twenties! So, yanbu :)

MsVestibule · 27/06/2012 18:51

YABVU. Trio did very well with that very phrase Wink. (Anyone under the age of 40 won't have a clue what I'm on about.)

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/06/2012 18:51

I typed pendant
Ha ha ha

It is a funny thing. I've noticed it crops up when people are trying to give examples in the abstract.

So they'll say 'Mrs. P. said X, then Mr. Y said Z'. Then I get confused, and drift off imagining those 'what's the shortest distance between X and Y' type puzzles.

By the time I zone back in, it's all over, and nobody is any the wiser anyway.

jubilucket · 27/06/2012 18:53

I got Trio right on Popmaster a few days ago Blush

MsVestibule · 27/06/2012 18:54

Seriously, though - do people really talk like this in a business environment? Been out of the WOH loop for a while, so maybe this trend has just passed me by...

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/06/2012 18:57

I was pretty astounded.
One of the woman seemed intelligent and had a responsible job but when she spoke no actual sentences that made sense came out.
Lots of words like basically and literally and and if say da da da da happened.
I thought I was going a bit mad. I was listening, watching her lips and using all my communication skills but...nope...not a thing...

Was she tuneful?

StripyMagicDragon · 27/06/2012 19:02

Someone I know says literally, basically, professionally speaking and "at the end of the day" in almost every sentence. It drives me to distraction. Literally.

ratspeaker · 27/06/2012 19:02

If you are running out streaming I'd suggest an antihistamine as maybe you're allergic to it all
unless it wasn't your eyes and nose then I'd say tena lady or imodium

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/06/2012 19:03

Hmmm tuneful?
No.
Mournful, yes.
Sort of like she was going to fall of her chair with the effort of talking

Ha ha, whilst wearing my pendant?

Add to the mix two facilitators who had been honing their 'assertiveness' skills for 50 years between them, and you have yourself a day I would rather forget.
But I need to debrief...
I am traumatised.

One of the mums at school literally doesn't ever say a complete sentence. Every time she adds in a "like whatsit" Confused. "so I saw Jenny and she was like whatsit. And I like whatsit until she'd like whatsit". It drives me mad!

manicbmc · 27/06/2012 19:10

It's because they are unable to string two words together.

I am so used to being able to 'hide threads' it now makes it really hard to put up with tripe in real life.
