to be worried about what my neighbours CCTV camera can see?

I have a neighbour who has a CCTV camera in his front bedroom window. I was told that he has it trained on his car and he has a notice in his window stating that it is there. Last week I had a conversation with him in which he said that he saw something in our neighbours garden (who lives behind us) and that he probably had it on camera. This made me wonder why he has a CCTV camera at the back? Where it is because there is no sign and also exactly what it is trained on? I have two 13 year old daughters who are often on the trampoline in our back garden - also with their friends - and my neighbour has 3 young children who often play in their garden. I just hate the idea of him filming things that go on in our life. Surely there must be rules about these things?

It is illegal to have private CCTV trained on public property or the private property of someone else. If his car is parked on this own front driveway, the camera must be positioned and angled so that it shows only his own driveway. If he can see the road, or your property, or a neighbour's property on his CCTV footage, het is breaking the law.

I'm not that bothered about the front one, although it isn't on a driveway it's out on the street. But I'm not at all happy about the back one that I didn't even know he had. We had Thames Water men in our gardens last week unblocking drains and he said that he watched them take things out of my neighbours drain and that he probably had it on camera. So that means his camera must be able to see into her garden, which makes me think that it probably can see into mine as well. I've tried to look into his back windows and I can't see a camera at all.

if you live in the uk, as long as he is using the camera for its intended purpose then he is not breaking any laws, domestic cctv systems are exempt from the data protection act however under article 8 (privacy rights) of the human rights act if its reasonable to suspect it is not being used for its intended purpose and to cause harrisment to you then he may be commiting an offence.tbh its neigh on impossible to secure a conviction and the police have very little intrest in dealing with it.
