He is in the next room. It is REALLY loud and I can't sleep!!! He often falls asleep in the room during the day too and snores loudly then so it's difficult to hold a conversation. No medical issues. AIBU to wish he would flipping do something about it so I can sleep undisturbed in my own house?!

Sneak in and put a pillow over his face and KILL HIM.

That should do the trick.

luisgarcia · 24/06/2012 01:44

What do you wish he would do about it?

EchoBitch · 24/06/2012 01:48

DP got those things you put over your nose.

They didn't work.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/06/2012 03:08

Wet cotton wool in your ears.

vvviola · 24/06/2012 03:15

If I didn't know better I'd say you were my DH Grin. My Dad does this. We used to live in the granny flat attached to my parents house & could still hear him.

Things have improved a bit (we can't hear him from the other side of the planet Wink), but he was diagnosed with sleep apnea which explains a lot of it. Once he lost weight it got a bit better but the snoring is still pretty bad.

I sympathise hugely. I still remember lying wide awake in bed, Dad snoring from the house, DH snoring in bed beside me, and tiny DD snoring from the Moses basket... I nearly went mad.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2012 10:09

Look on ebay for howard leightman ear plugs, Highest SNR rating you can find, I can still hear DH talking to me but they seem to block out his snoring. They are soo cheap on ebay.

They are really comfy too so I dont wake up with sore ears.

RandomMess · 24/06/2012 10:10

I'd go with the pillow approach Grin

DunkyWhorey · 24/06/2012 10:14

Shove a couple of tampons up his nose.

Failing that, in your ears.

No seriously its not his fault - he's asleep. What can he actually do about it? Oh I know there are splints you can get which sometimes work though they mess with your bite, and there is surgery you can have but apart from losing weight if obese, and avoiding alcohol, its sort of "one of those things"...

dreamingofsun · 24/06/2012 10:18

my sympathy. we have ours visiting this weekend. FIL awful - even the kids complain he keeps them awake through the walls. could hear MIL through the floor when we were sitting in the lounge. if you find a solution please let us know. my husband is just the same.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 24/06/2012 10:22

My DH is the same. I can hear him if I am downstairs and he is upstairs (but we have a small house!). It drives me nuts. I sleep in the main room with ear plugs and he is in the spare room. I cannot sleep with him next to me. The fatter he has become, the worse the snoring is.

Smellslikecatspee · 24/06/2012 11:35

If its that's loud and he does it sitting up, as you say he falls asleep during the day, that is not normal.

When he falls asleep during the day does he fall asleep very fast? And is it often?
He should really be checked out for sleep apnoea.

He could appear to be fit and well, 'cause his body will be used to going without sleep for so long he will think the way he feels is normal.

It won't take long to be checked out, and it's not intrusive.

thebetachimp · 24/06/2012 13:14

We use a white noise machine at night, as DH is a light sleeper. It drowns out everything, including FIL's snoring.

dreamingofsun · 24/06/2012 14:40

thebetachimp - please tell us more about this wonderful machine. i too am a light sleeper

thebetachimp · 24/06/2012 15:16

Sure. It blows airs through vents to make the noise and you can adjust the pitch to your own preferences.

We got it here: www.connevans.co.uk/store/viewProduct.do?id=997880

We use it with an automatic timer plug so that it turns on automatically at 10.30pm and turns off at 8am.

It's not cheap, but definitely worth it.
