I gather even when the ban was on all reported people were permitted to use the hose, disabled, business use etc.

PavlovtheCat · 23/06/2012 13:42

yes, you could absolutely report her.

or

you could get a life.

Anniegetyourgun · 23/06/2012 13:43

If she's washing away dog poo then surely it's in everyone's interest, especially her next-door neighbour's, to allow her to carry on.

goingbacktowork · 23/06/2012 13:44

I really am not sure that there are any hose pipe bans still in place - all lifted about 10 days ago. I would check.

hmc · 23/06/2012 13:47

If we were going through a protracted period of no rain and no immediate prospect of relief I might report someone....but now, after the downpours we've had? No!

maddening · 23/06/2012 13:52

I think if it's raining then don't report but as pp said - if we were in actual shortage then you should - there was a previous post when we were in shortage and the responses were in favour of reporting and there was a feeling of anger about the neighbour flouting the ban when they were close to emergency measures.

Do you have issues with this neighbour already as you mention your neighbour knowing rights re noisy dogs?

LaurieFairyCake · 23/06/2012 13:55

You are allowed to use a hosepipe for health and safety reasons associated with pets like washing away poo/washing the dog/watering the dogs bowls if there in outside kennels - even during a ban.

catgirl1976 · 23/06/2012 13:58

I will send her some of our rain so she doesn't need it.

But I wouldn't report someone. It's seems so petty. I just can't bring myself to care what other people do to that level.

oldraver · 23/06/2012 14:07

As Laurie said.....You are allowed to hose down patios and paths to stop them being a health and safety issue.

I would not report anyone anyway myself.... unless we had been in a prolonged period of drought. The ban and so called lack of water is a joke in a country with so much rain. The water companies should be doing more to conserve the water we have and deal with leaks.

Whatmeworry · 23/06/2012 14:20

I think reporting someone if we have had desert like conditions is one thing, reporting someoen in Noahs ark conditions just looks naff.

These current bans are all about money anyway.

YouOldSlag · 23/06/2012 14:21

It's the wettest June since record began.

Your neighbour is using a hosepipe and you want to tell on her.

Were you a prefect at school by any chance?

Piratemum123 · 23/06/2012 14:22

If you look up the regulations and rules for hosepipe bans I am almost sure that one of the exceptions that are made if you are using the hosepipe for health and safety reasons. Cleaning pet excrement would be included in this. I'm not certain but pretty sure that's the case. Pirate.

glastocat · 23/06/2012 14:25

Don't be such a busybody.

slartybartfast · 23/06/2012 14:45

there is still a ban here.

so health and safety she is ok to do it,
she apepars to be watering the fence Hmm

so there is still a ban but it is ok for her to use the hosepipe unless it is searingly hot, in which case, feel free to report her?

i dont really care, it was just a conversation starter. i am itching to make a remakr when i am sitting inthe garden. but i know i wouldnt.

leave it 20 years and perhaps i will care less and complain more.

OP posts:
slartybartfast · 23/06/2012 14:46

and people surely do report on people, that is how they are fined.

OP posts:
maddening · 23/06/2012 14:51

so do you think it is miffing you more as you already have a problem with her?

who is your water supplier?

ASillyPhaseIAmGoingThrough · 23/06/2012 15:08

My water co was one that didn't fine anyone, all reports were not held with those complaining.

If it riles you video your garden and her splashes and send it off, will you feel better then?

What is the dog issue?

slartybartfast · 23/06/2012 15:08

oh i spect so. i spose if i liked her i would be shocked

OP posts:
FlossieMae · 23/06/2012 17:27

I thought you could use your hose to wash away dog poo even if there's a ban don't care enough to check though

Charliefox · 23/06/2012 17:48

Report her? I say burn the witch.

AdventuresWithVoles · 23/06/2012 19:00

I think I would report, actually. How can she need to use the hose with all this rain, though? Shouldn't be using human-quality-drinking water on her garden, regardless. Are you sure it's not from water butts?

Bestb411pm · 23/06/2012 19:04

If you feel you must you'd report her to the water board.....

But when the bans were put in place there was an interview on the radio with one of the water boards clarifying exemptions and the guy basically said that unless there was a severe water shortage (think water stations only), they didn't really do anything about breeches relying on bans increasing awareness enough for the majority to curb their use of water.

hotheels · 23/06/2012 19:04

Do you want to complain because she has 'yappy dogs' op?

AuntieMaggie · 23/06/2012 19:16

One month or so of heavy rain fall in the wrong place does not make up for the unusually dry winters we have had.

It may be wet on the pavements and flooding in some areas but that doesn't mean that the reservoirs have recovered or that the rain has fallen in the right place...

I would report your neighbour, but then I know that some parts of the UK have less water per person than some of the driest parts of Africa. We all need to start using water more wisely otherwise there will be strict restrictions in the future as our population rises especially in the south east.

runnindownadream · 23/06/2012 19:29

A number of years ago during a particularly dry summer with hosepipe bans my uncle had a knock on the door from the water company.

They had hired a helicopter and surveyed gardens looking for lush green grass against brown scrub lands of garden to identify hosepipe misusers.

My uncle, being a thrifty kind of chap way back when, had to show them how he was using the waste bath and washing water in order to maintain his oasis Grin

Anyway my point is water companies are quite capable of catching culprits if they want to!
