Dd announced this morning she'd like to use some of her Christmas money to buy her teachers a gift when she leaves. Fine by me it's her money and they have both gone above and beyond for dd in the 5 months they have had her.

My problem is dd will ask me what to buy and I haven't a clue. The ta is a lovely woman with 15 years experience and her teacher is a NQT who is completely nuts, full of energy and enthusiasm. We always do a handmade card but this is the 1st times she's asked to buy a gift. Would it be ok to ask the teachers what they don't like so I can tell dd don't get x y or z but you can choose yourself what to get?

I always find out what the teacher likes, what their interests are etc.

There wont be one single thing all teachers like or dislike!

Am a TA not a teacher I would just be touched if I found out a child had used their money to get me a little something. It would not matter what it was, even better if the had chosen it.

What a lovely girl! The teachers will be really touched. When I was an nqt I was given a duck paperweight for when I became a head teacher! Not that that will ever happen! Parents knew I liked ducks and it made me cry. Just try to find out a bit about her and what she likes.

Awww that is a sweet thing to do. Tbh cards are the thing and I quite like edible or liquid gifts. No "Best Teacher" mugs though. I used to get 20 at least every time I left a placement and they went straight to the charity shop - that sounds really ungrateful but they are horrid.

i agree with Misss edible or liquid presents are the best. realistically, teachers can't keep every present, so it's better to have something you can use :)
just don't get her a bloody candle. i have a box of 25 candles i've been given by children and parents and never used (and i've not been in the job that long).
