To wonder why people go on holiday to exotic places

When they are the types who go all inclusive and never leave the resort.

Why not just go to whatever cheap place is sunny to eat pizza by the pool for ten days?

You haven't really been to cuba/mexico/egypt if you stayed inside a hotel complex and ate english food by the pool from the buffet have you?

I don't see anything wrong with a sun lounger holiday at all, or holidays where you do naff all! I honestly wasn't intending to sneer.

I'd love to go to new zealand. I have absolutely no idea what I'd do there other than look at scenery and sheep though.

Sorry to hear of the death in family lady, I hope you have a lovely holiday!

I would do a luxury hotel as many stars as I could possibly afford ever, but I wouldn't go AI. Although, if i get free drinks and I have lots of money I might and still eat out anyway

TBH cockwomble if you go for longer than a week you probably would end up eating out a few times. Most guests do.

But it tends to be very cheap so you don't mind.

In the med, eating out can be furiously expensive.

If price was no object, I think I would love to go to America, but take a couple of months to do it. Travel across the country and see all the different places.

Spend time experiencing the differences between (for eg) Las Vegas / Miami / New York / New Orleans and so on. Look for cowboys and showgirls the Hamptons and Maine. I can't quite get my head around how big it is (says the person that thought she could drive from Ohio to Florida during a 2 week break Blush and still have a week at Disney Blush Blush Blush)

Cockwomble · 21/06/2012 15:13

I'd love to go to america too! I have a friend who just came back from vegas and said it was fab! They took a helicopter ride over the grand canyon!

Cockwomble · 21/06/2012 15:14

Haha that was too many exclamation marks I think Blush

Only been AI three times and twice was in early pregnancy. Had absolutely no appetite and couldn't drink. They probably thought I was a bit weird.

Lovepjs · 21/06/2012 15:17

The standards within hotels vary a 5 in Dubai is better than a 5 in Spain. So you go exotic for the experience but just not the same experience OP would want ie sight seeing.

Hownoobrooncoo · 21/06/2012 15:18

We're looking at the US for a holiday. Can't decide between NY and Cape Cod or LA and the west coast. Husband veering to the west and I fancy the east. I just want someone to arrange it all for me now!

Hullygully · 21/06/2012 15:23

Death Valley and Vegas, then across to west coast.

Hullygully · 21/06/2012 15:24

I did a helicopter ride over the grand canyon, never felt so ill in my life!

TheNightWatch · 21/06/2012 15:25

I dont blame them for having the holiday they wanted.

eh?

Why are you quoting me back, OP?

LadyBeagleEyes · 21/06/2012 15:28

I'd love to do one of those luxury safari holidays, somewhere in Africa, with a week on the beach and a week in one of those luxury camps, where you can see elephants and herds of giraffes.
Another one would be Borneo, after seeing a documentary about orang utans.
Oh and Madagascar, just because it sounds so exotic.

Cockwomble · 21/06/2012 15:29

Because I don't understand what you mean!

OP posts:
Cockwomble · 21/06/2012 15:30

Madagascar would be good as I love lemurs. But then I'd fret that holidaying there would be ruining their environment Confused

OP posts:
Fluffy1234 · 21/06/2012 15:31

LadyBeagle, I'm with you on the African camp holiday.

TheNightWatch · 21/06/2012 15:36

Sorry? people pay for the holiday they want, whats not to understand? If they want to go to India and sit by the pool for two weeks then thats their perogative. And, two weeks in Kerala cant be compared with two weeks all inclusive in Spain. No way. Even if you didnt leave your hotel, there are differences. Huge ones.

Im lucky, I can and do go away three times a year. Im carefull what I spend my money on. If I want a city break and culture, I'll go to Budapest or somewhere. If I want backpacking/cheap hotels/make it up along the way, Ill go to Vietnam etc. If I want a week all inclusive I will go wherever I fancy be it Cancun or Tenerife because I literally will be going for the weather and not having to get off my Sun bed for the week, thats my choice. My money, my choice.

My next holiday is Turkey in a £25 a night b and b. I cant wait. One place Ive never been.

Hownoobrooncoo · 21/06/2012 15:37

Oh yes, one of those posh safaris with the lovely tents or those luxury tree top hotels. Verandas, camp fires, I want the Out of Africa experience.

Hownoobrooncoo · 21/06/2012 15:39

TheNightWatch - Turkey is one of my favourite destinations. It's amazing if you pick the right place, really hard to top.

Cockwomble · 21/06/2012 15:40

Erm...what's with the aggression nightwatch?

I just didn't understand what you meant by "I dont blame them for having the holiday they wanted". That's all.

OP posts:
Cockwomble · 21/06/2012 15:41

Literally didn't understand the sentence.

FreudianSlipper · 21/06/2012 15:41

i wonder that too

the first time i went to thailand a guy i worked with was there the same time (was not aware until after) i was all excited about going to the different islands and so on, asked him what did he get up to and he replied well the hotel was so nice and food was great we sat around the pool

when i went to cuba only a few ventured out

i do not like all inclusive i feel trapped and have to get out

FreudianSlipper · 21/06/2012 15:49

Hownoobrooncoo go west coast

california has so much to offer just plan your holiday out as it is so bit. if you can get to san francisco it is a beautiful city (nicer than la) but la has lots to do and see

edwinbear · 21/06/2012 15:52

DH and I usually go to the Maldives AI on holiday. We go AI because the Maldives is ridiculously expensive otherwise, and seeing as the island you are on is the resort, there isn't really much outside the resort to do. I scuba dive, so spend most of my holiday underwater. I can think of no better way to spend a fortnight personally, but each to their own.

TheNightWatch · 21/06/2012 16:00

Hownoo, Im going to Dalyan. I cant wait. Its just what I need. Good weather, abit of sight seeing, great food and cheap! Smile It will be a first, which is always exciting.
