To Think She'd Be Tired Too.

Yesterday on the school run one of the Grans commented that 'young people have no stamina' because I was stifling a yawn. Being tired I'm still a bit upset about it.

I went back to work on Monday working backshift so finished at 10. By the time I drive home get a snack tidy up etc it's just after midnight I get to bed. DS has started the day between 4 and 5 on Sunday, Monday and yesterday. On Tuesday it was 1:30 although I did eventually manage to settle him to allow me to get 2 more hours at 5.

I am pissed off it's not as if I was using it as an excuse to get out of doing things. Surely most people would be at least a little tired on this amount of sleep.

It's a way of opening conversation. Like the weather. You're supposed to tell her why you're tired. She then gives you irrelevant advice on the matter.

Returntowork · 21/06/2012 06:49

She could have said something less rude like 'are you tired this morning?' 'baby keeping you awake?'

Meant to add I'm not even that young and she's a relatively young granny.

You're tired. You're sensitive.

Just ignore it, brush it off. Or say 'of course I am, I work back shift and have a baby that wakes up at 4!'

HecateAdonaea · 21/06/2012 07:02

Why didn't you just tell her why you were tired?

"haha. You'd be tired too if you were working till 10, didn't get to bed until midnight and were woken up at 1:30 and again at 4!"

Say something. Don't say nothing and then sit and fume. You'll just give yourself an ulcer! Grin

Returntowork · 21/06/2012 07:05

I did say I'd been up since 4.

good! What did she have to say to that?

I really wouldn't bother about it, you know. You know why you're tired, who cares what some woman at the school gate thinks?

pictish · 21/06/2012 07:12

Why do you care what she thinks?
If someone said that to me while I was stifling a yawn, I'd just grin at them. It's a totally nothing statement and you're taking it way too seriously!

imnotmymum · 21/06/2012 07:18

Yes I would have just agreed with- her people hate that !

Returntowork · 21/06/2012 07:21

She just shook her head hecate. It upsets me because I hate to be thought of as lazy and when I'm tired I'm grumpy.

"and some people have no manners..."

NotGeoffVader · 21/06/2012 10:19

Yes, what Zillion said or substitute 'and some people' for 'and some grandparents' :)

valiumredhead · 21/06/2012 10:21

Sounds like she was just trying to be friendly and chat and you are tired and have got the hump!

BigBoobiedBertha · 21/06/2012 10:24

Are you sure she meant it and wasn't just being a bit tongue in cheek?

You must be knackered so if you didn't take it that way it wouldn't be surprising but I wouldn't worry about it.

You could have said something like 'and some old people have forgotten what it was like to be young'. Also a bit tongue in cheek too.
