I had two bouts of mastitis in the first month after DS was born. Felt like death. Hope you feel better soon.

BellaOfTheBalls · 20/06/2012 14:41

Can I put my peer supporter head on for a moment? If you have mastitis please please please see GP. You will need antibiotics if it's true mastitis and not a blocked duct (same symptoms, different severity). Hot compresses before a feed, cold after. Ignore anyone who tells you not to feed off infected side; it's very old advice. Ibuprofen (it's fine!) & paracetamol alternated for pain & fever.

Have had mastitis when ds was 3 weeks, so am familiar with the horror. Have spoken to gp on phone and been prescribed abs. Still not certain it's the boob. Boob only sore since today, no redness and no more lump after the firm massage (ouch), but been ill since sunday and ds had viral rash and is a touch off colour
