A dog poop question - bag it or leave it? Who's worse in this instance?

A week or so ago I was walking my dog along a footpath through some fields. It's a path used mainly by dog walkers, horse riders and cyclists so not exactly in huge general use.

In the middle of the path was a large pile of shite, next to it a poop bag under a stone. At the time I thought it was a good idea as, to me, it showed someone intended to come back and clear it up, presumably at the end of their walk.

Going along the same route today and it's still there. The bag can't have been placed by the original owner of the pooping dog, someone else must have put it there.

So my thought is that the bag leaver is worse in this instance as they have merely added a bit of litter to the original poop pile. Litter which will take a lot longer to degrade as well as using raw materials and energy to make in the first place.

AIBU to think this? Would anyone else leave a bag in the hope the original person would be shamed into picking it up?

I was feeling all charitable the other day... basically there was a massive pile of poo near my dogs so I picked that up too (with a bag)...

Very few bins on this part of route so walked with it... even went through a bush hanging on to it after the dog did one in terrier mode...

I was feeling full of dog-owner smugness by the time I got to bin... reached to front pocket where I had tucked the top of bag in and it was gone! I had only tucked it there about 5mins before to put the dog on lead as near a busy stables and road! Retraced steps... nothing. Checked the verges... nothing.

Could not believe it and now worried that my bag will be DNA'd and will have the dog-poo police at my door!

Bah, iPhone... Poop bags in the side pockets of my rucksack. Not the one I keep the Werthers in.

If you're not going to take it home or bin it, then just leave it. Not ideal, but the good old British weather will deal with it eventually, and people who leave plastic-wrapped 'poop bombs' are just vile IMHO.

Can someone please explain poo bags hanging from trees? I understand leaving bag to one side to pick up on the way back from the walk but not just leaving bags of shit dangling from trees as if this is somehow better than shit on the ground. It just lasts longer and is displayed at eye level! No one wants to see shit baubles, it annoys me much more than a bit of poo at the side of the path, although I could do without that as well!!
