To hate going to the park?

We have a nice big garden with nobs and whistles galore - ie a swing, seesaw, a real live pirate swing boat, a slide, a playhouse, big lawned bit for running about & stuff. But now the weather's nice I get nagged to take the DC to the park pretty much every afternoon after school, and if I dont take them I am apparently evil.

The park is ok, if you overlook the teenagers sulkily taking over the swings, the dog shit, the litter, and the fact that I can't relax because I've got to watch my youngest one like a hawk.

Why aren't they happy playing in their own garden, where they don't have to queue to use the slide and I can lie on a sunlounger with my eyes shut, g&t in hand?

flump No sarcasm intended at all... but I think you are perfect. Lollies. I love lollies. A freezer in the shed with lollies. Just perfect.

Ds1 wants to take me to the park and teach me how to play football.... help me.

I want to lie on a blanket in my lovely garden... sipping a lovely home made juice, reading the biog I am really getting into at the moment... not having to worry about ds3 breaking himself trying to outdo his older brothers.

YANBU - Oh how I hate the park as well...never could stand it. Would rather stick rusty nails in my eyes.

But DH needs to go to the park with DD as she clearly knows that I will not.

badtasteflump · 20/06/2012 14:23

Aw shuks OurPlant. Come n have a lolly Smile.

Re your DS - just insist on kicking the ball with your toes - he'll soon be too embarrassed to continue Grin

i love the park over the road - it's huge (600 acres), with lots of woodland, rabbits, squirrels, blue jays, woodpeckers.....it's really beautiful and serene. Shame they ruined it with a play area, really.
I do always make sure we walk the (very) long way round to the play area though - "oh no girls, look at the time, we've only got 10 minutes to play on the swings".

badtasteflump · 20/06/2012 14:26

But Charlotte my garden is 610 acres...

Our nearest park is next door to the school. So every afternoon after school the whining requests start "Muuuuum, can we go to the park, can we go to the park pleeeeeeeeease".

I hate the fucking park.

YANBU.

SPsFanjoHarboursDeadCats · 20/06/2012 14:41

That's how much I want to play on the pirate ship Grin

Might use Flash lemon wipes

blackcurrants · 20/06/2012 14:56

I want your garden!

We rent and our garden (playhouse! Climbing frame thingy with little slide! water table!) has a big gap at the front where 2 year old DS can (1) run into the road and (2) run into next door's garden.

laughing, looking back over his shoulder at me heaving myself up off the rug and flinging down my book/spilling my drink in panic/rage. ARGH!

We're trying to buy at the moment. FIRST THING I buy for the new place - before lightbulbs, I swear it - will be a bloody big fence!

Our park isn't far away and doesn't tend to have kids over 8 in it, which is nice. DS also can't really break himself on any of it, so I do get to sit on a bench and MN and muse big thoughts sometimes. But mostly he wants to go to the stream at the other end of wood and try to fall in throw stones, and that does get boring.

I find podcasts useful. One can push a swing for hours listening to a radio 4 documentary or something. [easily bored mother emoticon]

Shutupanddrive · 20/06/2012 16:20

Oh I'm so glad it's not just me!
YANBU at all, I hate the park too. We got a trampoline half price from Argos a few months ago so I can sit outside and watch them bounce instead of having to go there Smile

SPsFanjoHarboursDeadCats · 20/06/2012 20:12

I take it back I love the park! Just got back and I think I will go every night.

nothing to do with the very good looking dad I saw today
