To be considering selling our olympic tickets as I tink it will be too stressful to go

We got 5 tickets for the athletics in the ballot last year and were thrilled. You could only request a date not a time and we were allocated 6 -10pm. Kids will be 9 and 5 yr old twins and having looked at the transport links it is going to take hours to get home after the event. (we only live in Reading). We have been told to allow 2 hours each side to get in and out of the venue, you are not allowed to take bags or water etc in and I think the whole thing will be nightmare with the children getting very tired and not enoying the event. I realise it is a once in a lifetime event butI am dreading in.

So AIBU?

We have 2sets of tix for 2 games at Hampden. We plan to go early but not 2 hours early as I don't think it will be sold out...and I don't see the Scots standing for that tbh. They are so many tix left for the womens' games they were giving them away in a colouring competition at school last week Shock

We paid £35 for each adult ticket and then the children paid their age : £4 and £6. We have been to the free torch lighting event & the kids loved it. And now they are excited!

But I do agree that all this "once in a lifetime" stuff is tosh. It may even be better to visit in another country then you will be spared the stress of worrying, knowing what you know from the papers, knowing what you know of transport problems...

I would go.

Babies under 12 months don't need ticket anymore and it's fine to give (or sell for face value) tickets to friends and family. You just can't tout them / advertise them / sell for a profit.

I'm going to 2 events, one with Dh and newborn dc3 and the other with dd1 (4) and dd2 (3) as well. Can't wait Grin although neither event is at the Olympic stadium - very Envy

We went to the athletics at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. It was a gorgeous evening - lovely and sunny (well actually boiling hot until the sun had gone below the side of the stadium) and a brilliant atmosphere. England won lots of stuff so we had to keep standing to sing Land of Hope and Glory.

However, the thing with athletics is that while there are some exciting races, in between there is lots of waiting around and also with the field events, they are often over the other side of the stadium while a medal ceremony is going on somewhere else. It's all a bit disjointed TBH.

So even the actual event might be a bit dull for the 5 year olds. I would leave early as someone else said. I think we did that in Manchester as two grown adults as it's always easiest to get out ahead of the crowds.

Softlysoftly I registered one of my sets for re-sale yesterday. Have you logged into your account? I applied for three lots and got them all and they're all within a week of each other. My DC are 5 and 2 and I can't quite manage three trips!

PandaWatch · 20/06/2012 15:05

Softly you can transfer them to friends or family. The only condition is that you (or whoever's name is on the tickets) may have to be available so they can call you on the day to check payment details or something.

We are taking our 4 year old to the hockey games, and leaving at 6am to get to our seats for 8.15am. We live in SE London a few stops from the DLR at Woolwich Arsenal so an easy journey for us. One of us could carry him if he got tired. We are planning on leaving early to avoid the mad rush out. I'm not sure I'd want to take 2x5 year olds in the evening.

Could you keep an eye out for different timed tickets for a different event? We only got the hockey ones last week because they released extra.
