To ask a blind woman to pick up her dog's poo near the school gate?

Actually, I didn't have the nerve to ask, and I can't be 100% sure it was her dog thought the circumstantial evidence was quite compelling.
If it happens again, wwyd?

Graham you can have the Pit Bull and it's bloody ugly, stupid, ignorant, aggressive owner too!

I used to like dogs. Well, I guess it's not really them but their owners I don't like who think that their dog has more rights than any child.

But even they are not as bad as thick and ignorant posters like the OP. Has she posted before btw? Or was this thread meant to inflame?

I have seen a person with a guide dog down on their knees on the pavement patting around with a poo bag over their hand and I felt absolutely terrible for them - I def would have done it for them had I not been driving. Poor woman for this to have happened to her and no I don't think you should have pointed it out - it is just one of those things.

ohchristFENTON · 19/06/2012 14:12

ooh, do we have a goader ?

GrahamTribe · 19/06/2012 14:13

No, no, no, no, no. I don't want the owner, thanks, I might teach the dorkhead some new language. The Pit I can train, the man - beyond redemption. Grin

Op, if you didn't see the dog do the poo then it would be very rude of you to ask her to pick it up.

Although dogs are trained to poo on demand, they do have off days, such a funny tummy. It's not always possible to notice that they have done a poo either, some dogs are quite sneaky about it and will poo whilst they're walking.

If my husbands dog does a poo, then he will clear it up. (no sight, a case of fumbling round the pavement.) if someone offers to pick it up that is obviously greatly appreciated, but certainly not expected.

If someone asks him to clear up a poo that doesn't belong to his dog, then, well insert any rude response you like back in this space Smile

Ps, I don't know about other dog owners, but Dh and other friends who are registered blind do generally carry a supply of dog poo bags.

To the person who wanted to know about speech reading software, jaws for windows is the best, although very expensive.

So have I, but then I do have quite specialist tastes in adult film.

As a UK guide dog owner of more than 17 years, and a board member and director of two guide dog organisations in Europe, I am very happy to confirm that although we are, as registered blind people, exempt from dog fouling laws, training is given in clearing up whether the guide dog owner is totally blind or has so,e residual vision.

I would say that this is all a little bit out there-since I would personally be rather shocked to be confronted by someone who was not even sure that my guide dog did anything. The tickly since, I would certainly be away if my daughter did that - and I would clean up immediately.

The only important exception is when my dog is free running In a park or other area. We are trained to use techniques to clean up when the dog is on the lead - but there is nothing we can do when the dog is off the lead. My wife, who is also blind,Maas abused seriously last year when her dog allegedly spent (did the nasty) while running in a park. The person shouted and swore at her but didn't want to be,p her. She is more reasonable than I would have been.

Thank you to the poster who considered the potential knock to confidence. This would be even more important to a new guide dog owner or someone with recent sight loss.
