To have not wanted this assistant to ask me to buy some tissues for charity?

I was in the garden centre today buying a few plants for ds2's mini garden. The guy serving me asked if I wanted to buy a pack of tissues for £1 for a charity and I declined. He was quite sniffy about it. I do give to charity, but didn't want these tissues for £1 and didn't want to contribute to this charity.

He had also asked the woman he was serving previous to me and she bought some.

I felt a bit mean, but don't like being asked for something like this when I'm just trying to buy my stuff Hmm

No, the OP decided he was sniffy because she'd declined. Apparently the sniffiness was conveyed vi subliminal messages and telepathy and the fact that he pulled a weed out of the plant they were buying Hmm

StepOutOfSpring · 19/06/2012 12:26

So you're basically saying the OP is making it up or exaggerating then SoupDragon?

I think sniffiness can be quite obvious even if there are no words. Raised eyebrow, huffing and so on.

ObiWan · 19/06/2012 12:28

The OP has a sense of humour, something so rare around here these days that some people just don't seem to recognise it.

Or maybe I'm picking up on it due to my telepathic powers..

TheRhubarb · 19/06/2012 12:28

Look, he's doing his job. He's been asked to offer charity tissues to people and probably gets some rude replies tbh. It's not as bad as WH Smith offering huge bars of chocolates or 2 packets of shite for the price of 1.

Honestly, if this offended you then I'm wondering how you get through the day?

monkeymoma · 19/06/2012 12:31

his employers are probably counting how much "upselling" they are doing (even if its a charity thing). He probably got told off for not upselling and is being watched! I hated upselling when I worked on a till but it gets noticed if you don't and you get a bollocking!

Believe me it is far more annoying to be the one who is DOING the upselling for hours a day, than to be the one who just has to say no and walk away

SoupDragon · 19/06/2012 12:32

"So you're basically saying the OP is making it up or exaggerating then SoupDragon?"

Given she said it was via subliminal messages and telepathy, I think she is putting her own meaning on something entirely normal.

AKMD · 19/06/2012 12:34

I hate stuff like this but the assistant is just doing his job. I doubt he cares either way but the charity does rely on these silly self-inflicted guilt trips to sell the tissues or sweets or whatever.

The oen I hate the most is at Whipsnade Zoo where the ticket price includes a 'voluntary' donation and if you don't want to donate then you specifically have to say so i.e. opt-out rather than opt-in. Boy do I feel like a cheapskate opting out of giving to charity infront of a queue full of people Blush

...people look at you as if it's the blitz and you've just written "This way to the dockyards" and an arrow in tealights in the street.

:o :o :o
Sorry...

StepOutOfSpring · 19/06/2012 12:50

You're right ObiWan, I'm not sure why it is funny Confused I have a sense of humour, just not this particular one :o
