To think I can lose one stone

In the next three weeks - if I try really hard?

Holiday looms and I am grossly overweight - heaviest I've ever been - comfort eating due to family stuff

I want to be so over that now - focus on losing a little bit of weight for the holiday - as a kick start if you like.

Just need some virtual moral support - is this a reasonable goal or way too ambitious?

Its possible, but very difficult and not sustainable long term. I've always found cutting waaaay down on carbs helps me - not increasing fat or protein, just cutting down on carbs (so that overall calories are reduced too).

If you, like me, are overweight the thing that feels best to me is wearing clothes that were too tight or dropping a dress size. If you've not been exercising much cutting back on food and doing a decent toneup excercise routine would definitely make your clothes baggier and you feel more energetic within your timescale.

I've lost 1.5 stone in about 8 weeks now. I'm finding it's amazing how many food based things crop up in life that you have to work around to sustain loss for an ongoing period. My fitness pal is good for keeping track of your food and excercise. If you play around with meal plans you'll see just how few calories you can consume to loose 4 or 5 lbs/week.

sorry i think it is an unrealistic target. you would have to do extreme dieting and very few people actually stick to it. if you want to lose weight aim for half a stone first (it can be suprising the difference a few pound can make). however, i honestly think 3 weeks before a holiday is a bad time to start a diet, as you are likely to just re-gain what you have lost and end up feeling really low about it. if i was you, for now, i would buy some nice, flattering holiday wear, enjoy the holiday, and then start a sensible diet once you get back.
btw i lost nearly 2 stone with weight watchers and managed to keep it off :) it took about 3 and a half months, once i had reached my goal weight i switched my 'plan' to maintaining my weight rather than losing it which has helped me manage what i eat in the long run.

Certainly unhealthy and almost certainly unrealistic unless you are massively overweight to start with.

You could get close if you do dukan or low carb.

I was 10st 7 and got down to 10st in 2 weeks before my hols last year by cutting out bread, rice, potatoes and pasta.
