Recently started slimming world online. I am 5ft 4 and weigh 9 st 10lb, just want to shift half a stone before hols. Have followed diet very well, found its very good, never been hungry etc. have had alternate red and green days, not gone mad on free foods e.g. Potatoes on green days, just eaten sensible portions. Had 5-8 syns per day (can have 5-15) and have just had first weigh in and have lost one sodding pound??? Am feeling very deflated. Has anybody else experienced this on skimming world? Got six weeks til holiday, weight loss seems very very minimal considering I have stuck to the diet - which is basically healthy eating. Thanks ;)

Everyone is different. I find with me, I lose up to 4lb in the first week of Slimming world but then I stay the same or have a small gain in the second week. It takes a while for your body to get used to a different way of eating. I think a 1lb loss is great, and if you haven't got much to lose anyway it will come off slower.

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 17/06/2012 16:48

Better to have it come off slowly and healthily, than fall off quickly and go back on after holidays.
I predict 3lbs next week (disclaimer, this is a total guess :o )
How many weeks until holidays?

NovackNGood · 17/06/2012 16:50

You are being unreasonable as if you actually did some exercise like go for a walk for an hour a day and kept to your normal food intact you'd probably loose 2 lbs a week.

Diet companies are best at separating you from your cash not from excess weight.

accountantsrule · 17/06/2012 16:50

I find with SW the weight comes off a bit slower (I am similar height and weight) in the 1st week then seems to come off quicker once my body adjusts to the diet.

I have also done WW and the weight generally comes off quicker but then slows down.

Keep at it, its better than putting on or staying the same, its a really successful diet for most people so don't be put off.

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 17/06/2012 16:51

Agree with BubbleBobble that everyone is different. I haven't had experience of Slimming World, I do WW but I suspect they aren't that different and based around healthy eating.. The leader at our meeting always points out that weightloss isn't an exact science and everyone one's bodies react differently.

I have a lot to lose and only lost 1/2lb the first week, and was very miffed, but lost 6lb the next. Since then I've evened out at 1.5 lb a week.

WorraLiberty · 17/06/2012 16:52

It sounds as though you probably need vigorous exercise rather than Slimming World.

I echo the exercise comments. I walk for 45mins a day and am using the 'My Fitness Pal' app on my phone (all free) and am losing 2-4lbs a week.

CanISawItOff · 17/06/2012 16:57

I should add i'm a darn sight fatter than you though and I loathe people who complain they "want to lose half a stone for the holidays", i lose that just through water retention when I have my period without touching the fat!

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 17/06/2012 17:38

Sorry should have added I do exercise. I walk my dog every day for 2 x 30 mins brisk walks as well as walking to town and back (3 miles) 2 or 3 times a week. I don't have a lot to lose but wish I could get back to 9 stone 1 or 2 :) I am nearly 40 and have 2 children. I guess I will see what the next few weeks bring. It's a really great eating plan and has helped me stop grabbing biscuits and bread!! I find an egg, baked beans and tomatoes is a great start to the day and I could literally skip lunch as I am not really hungry but I read it's better to eat regularly. On a red day today, just had a massive salad, green beans, lovely steak and mushrooms. Great recipes on line. I would recommend the diet as far as not being hungry goes but I would have thought I would have lost more than 1lb but better than putting 1lb on I guess and I know I am eating well and healthily :)

Baked beans!!! A tin of baked beans is full of sugar. Its that really on a healthy eating plan. Seems to be a way of loading you with sugar not healthyeating.

Use a smaller plate and eat slight smaller portions and you'll lose weight without paying some multi level marketing firm your cash for nothing.

StuntGirl · 17/06/2012 17:58

YABU. The closer you are to your goal weight the harder/longer it takes to lose. For half a stone 1lb a week is quite a lot, 1/2lb a week would be more realistic.

If it's more a case of 'toning up' lifting some weights to improve your muscle tone will probably work better.

BIWItheBold · 17/06/2012 18:02

It will be slower for you because you are already within your 'desirable' weight range (according to BMI counter).

If you have six weeks to go, you could still lose 6lbs in total, which would be what you're aiming for.

ErikNorseman · 17/06/2012 18:10

You aren't overweight to start with so weight loss will be slow for you, you probably can't lose more than 1lb a week safely anyway. 1lb of fat is a surprisingly large amount, well done!

MammaTJ · 17/06/2012 18:17

The slower you lose it, the slower it will go back on.

Anyway, slimming world, eat the free foods. They are free foods because you CAN eat as much of them as you need to feel full. They should be the bulk of your diet. I find the more of them I eat, the more weight I lose. Also look at speed foods. They are the foods that will speed your weight loss.

WorraLiberty · 17/06/2012 18:19

Walking isn't great for weight loss but it's brilliant to maintain a healthy weight.

You probably need to run/jog/other rigorous things.

WithoutCaution · 17/06/2012 18:30

Curves or Pulse fitness both do 30 minute circuit workouts, you loose weight as you tone up. I find this and being more sensible with portion size and type of food a good way to loose/maintain a healthy weight :)

IKilledIgglePiggle · 17/06/2012 18:35

I am exactly the same weight and height, I too want to get half a stone off for my upcoming holiday.

The only thing that works for me is cutting way back on carbs, I still have chocolate and wine, but hardly any bread, potatoes and pasta.

scuzy · 17/06/2012 19:18

weight loss is 80% what you eat 20% excercise.

it take a few weeks to get your head around sw. dont be disheartened. sounds like you are eatin free foods and skipping lunch. you need to eat SUPER free at every meal. beans is free, mangetout is superfree so you are not getting your super free enough. read your book and make sure you are eating from the super free at every meal. it does make a difference.

stick with it and you will see a significant shift in weeks to come.

ConstanceChatterley · 17/06/2012 19:36

Agree with the baked beans comment above. Not a suitable 'diet' food imo, loaded with sugar.

I'm probably going to get shot down for this and whilst I do acknowledge that slimming world works well for some people, I think it's actually a load of crap. For a start, it peddles the low-fat myth - low fat stuff just has loads of starch in it to give it texture (which gets broken down to sugar in your digestive system so you may as well have had a Mars bar). I would try putting what you eat in an average day on SW into my fitness pal and I bet you'd be surprised at how many calories you're actually consuming. I'd echo what others have said - if it's looking good for a holiday, I'd stick to a nice balanced diet and exercise a little more. You've just enough time to do Jillian Michael's 30 day shred - you're weight might not change hugely as you'll shred fat and put on muscle, but your shape will.

ConstanceChatterley · 17/06/2012 19:40

I should also add that I don't know anyone who has lost weight on SW who hasn't put it all back on plus some. Plural of anecdote is not evidence though so I'm sure it is a long term solution for some people.

accountantsrule · 17/06/2012 20:32

Constance I agree, SW seems to be a quick (ish) fix but the people I know have always put it back on (stones and stones) whereas those who did WW seemed to keep it off as it concentrates on the smaller portions etc.

Not always the case I am sure, just my experience.

scuzy · 17/06/2012 20:36

constance i have to disagree tbh. i have lost 2 and half stone on it since january. i have never cooked from scratch before, making own sauces, herbs, stock etc. it doesnt promote low fat products i dont buy any. i use slim millk and low fat butter as i have always done. but i dont buy jars of sauces any more, i cut off visible fat, eat more fruit, vegetables i neevr tried before and water.

and i still have take aways, nights out. its just about being sensible and still enjoying yourself. there is a science to some of the super foods (digesting them burns more calories than is in them) for examplehence why they are important.

but if i gave it up in the morning it has thought me life lessons with regards food, its benefits and cooking.

scuzy · 17/06/2012 20:36

taught, not thought.

accountantsrule · 17/06/2012 20:40

Scuzy that is amazing - congratulations!
