I like the threads that are in the vein of,

OP - Hi I'm having a girl and really like the name Phoebe, please can you help me to find a middle name that goes with it.

Poster 1 - I don't like Phoebe, have you thought of Mirabelle, Dottiekins or Tralalala?

Poster 2 - Phoebe is nice but do you not like Edna Beryl Barbara better OP? I do.

OP - Confused erm...

Megatron · 16/06/2012 20:33

I've never been in there before. I'm going in.

hockeyforjockeys · 16/06/2012 20:33

pets nope I can beat that.

I have taught both a Surprise and an Enough.

Birdsgottafly · 16/06/2012 20:37

I just put it down to a North/South divide thing (me being in the North).

Pissed me off when my own DD's name was criticised, though.

SPsFanjoHarboursDeadCats · 16/06/2012 20:38

birds its the same for me

DressDownFriday · 16/06/2012 20:41

Have you tried searching your own name on the baby names thread. My rl name doesn't go down very well at all Shock

Petsinmypudenda · 16/06/2012 20:42

Enough?! Yup that wins!

My boys both have common shortened names- a sin on mumsnet, they won't get taken seriously as adults. I've scarred them for life (Ben and Will)

My own name is mauled on here for being chavvy

ComposHat · 16/06/2012 20:43

Baby names is fucking brilliant! I love to settle down with a tea and a kitkat and laugh till I wee

It is hilarious isn't it? I do pity the kids saddled with those bloody awful names, but I get a good laugh, which is the main thing.

misslinnet · 16/06/2012 20:48

It's probably hormones.

The scenario AlexReidsLonelyBraincell describes does kind of annoy me though.

NowThenWreck · 16/06/2012 20:51

I did look up my own name on the baby name finder. Apparently I shop in Monsoon. I knew it.

kittyandthefontanelles · 16/06/2012 21:01

"It is the one thread where I have been bullied, berated and badgered!" * Now those are CRACKING names.....sorry, greylady.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/06/2012 21:10

I think the robust comments are a public service.

You go on there with for example - 'Rudolph'

And someone goes Hmm er..... Reindeer?

Or Hmm Hess????

And you go away relieved that youve just gone potty for the day and that thankfully someone told you as no one in real life ever tells you the truth. Grin

I am so glad I'm not the only one who uses Baby Names as a form of cheap entertainment!

manicbmc · 16/06/2012 21:13

I know a kid called Lord Grace Hmm

And my dd knows someone who's middle name is Captain.

DontmindifIdo · 16/06/2012 21:15

They need telling, because if you're going to give your child a name that will be a gift to a school bully and/or career limiting, it's best you go into this with your eyes wide open.

GnocchiNineDoors · 16/06/2012 21:17

I have a dd whos name is a very short nickname of a Real Name. I hate it when the posters say 'put the full name on tge bc' erm...no. I dont LIKE the full name.

And I tell you what, ill find it less odd going to see Dr Mason Smith than I would fecking Dr Benedict Smith even though Benedict is, apparently, a perfectly normal everyday name Hmm

SPsFanjoHarboursDeadCats · 16/06/2012 21:22

I'm currently been questioned about my sons name on a baby name thread. Don't get the big deal about what others name their children

manicbmc · 16/06/2012 21:30

Is he called CrumpledRumpSkin or something? Grin

SPsFanjoHarboursDeadCats · 16/06/2012 21:32

Way they carry on you would think so. It's the spelling of it apparently. I don't give fucks what people call there kids

doggus · 16/06/2012 21:43

I went on there when VERY hormonal and asked what everyone thought of Bernard for a boy....

winces at memory

manicbmc · 16/06/2012 21:45

I prefer Bernard for a girl. I call dd Bernard if she's good.

EBDTeacher · 16/06/2012 21:46

I use Baby Names as my escapism before bed or after stress it's so far from the real word.

I considered Dante when I was pregnant

CaveMum · 16/06/2012 21:48

If you love a good Shock at baby names, I can highly recommend Baby's Named a Bad Bad Thing

IHaveAFeatureWallAndILikeIt · 16/06/2012 21:53

I think people should come onto mumsnet to check the spelling of their baby names. I've come across a Katiey a Silviya and a Nicholaus!

EBDTeacher · 16/06/2012 21:56

Right. It's nearly my bedtime so I'm going to share my game with you..

I have a fictional DC2. I'm going to name him/ her a fictional name from post.... ... 12.

Go check...
