DS2 is nearly 2 months old and i haven't sent one thank you for all his lovely gifts. i think we'd just about done DS1's by now

so in order to assist me in working out how much to flap..

how soon do you expect to receive thank you notes or cards in this situation?

also do you mind if it's a really specific note referring to what you actually gave?

i had grand plans of a spreadsheet list of exactly who gave what, but a slightly early arrival meant i lost track a bit. :(

am considering making some up with photo of baby and hand writing a short message of thanks.

thanks. :)

If it makes you feel any better, DD is 3 months old and I've just got round to sending out the thank you cards. I feel crap about it. I'm usually so on to it with stuff like that.

Tryharder · 16/06/2012 04:51

I don't think I ever once sent a thank you note for a gift given to me after the birth of a child. I don't people expect you to really.

And please tell me you are up feeding your baby and not simply stressing about this!!

MissTapestry · 16/06/2012 05:02

I wouldn't expect one at all, although obviously I'd be chuffed if I did get a pic and a thanks. Chill out woman Grin and go to sleeeep!

jaggythistle · 16/06/2012 05:06

I sent them within about a month max. Really, don't stress. Send them with a little pic, everyone knows you are busy!

Icelollycraving · 16/06/2012 05:11

Btw I bought thank you for the baby gift cards in a pack, everyone thought they were very sweet. Think they were from clintons.

missingmumxox · 16/06/2012 05:13

don't sweat on it, I never sent thankyous for my wedding as we didn't actually open the presents for 10 months, and by the time we did loads of labels had fallen off.
basically by the time my twins where born the bar had been set very low, I don't think anyone expected anything, but when they where 3 months old I created a Hello mag thing on powerpoint just 2 pages with pics.
okay I had twins but I started with something on the lines of Hello, A and B are happy to be installed in their new contry cottage A said" after our pervious accomodation which I can only discribe as cramped and dark this is a palace" B added "we are so happy with the new staff as well they attend to our every need" I put in a couple of cute pics and concentrated no the people who had made stuff, calling it bespoke and designer, my boys are 7 and I have found out at a reasent family do everyone has actually kept their copy,I was a bit shocked because we don't do sentimental in my family , but they said it was individual and funny which is why they kept it....but actually it wasn't they all know twas the same newsletter to all.

BelRowley · 16/06/2012 05:37

I don't think anyone really minds if new baby cards are late. People understand you are busy. If you can muster the energy I'd send generic and brief thank yous but include a photo. That'll distract any misers. If possible get the text printed on the card too then you just have to address envelopes. I do believe that new babies and especially 2nd new babies onwards are the exceptions to any thank you card etiquette. Whatever works I say.

PoppyWearer · 16/06/2012 05:52

Don't sweat it.

Get some printed with a photo collage of your baby's highlights so far and get a message printed inside. Make life easier on yourself!

Do you have a Dad/FIL who might be willing to help? Mine did the envelopes for me and stuck all the stamps on, bless him!

In future, my trick is to do them one at a time, as soon as you get the gift, don't leavevit until you have a big pile of cards to do in one go. Also as soon as DS1 can manage a few letters or shows interest in "helping", get him to draw a picture or write his name.

Pitmountainpony · 16/06/2012 05:57

I think within 6 months.....people understand but I think it is bad dorm to not send a quick thank you.....e mail is fine in my book but to not acknowledge someone,s thoughtfulness somehow......at some point is .bad manners. Very few people have not acknowledged when I have sent something....you wonder if it arrived or not.
I think it ungracious not to say thank you but I think you have a long time to do it after a baby as people understand. I am really quite amazed when perfectly nice people do not acknowledge a gift......whether it be for their kids or them.

Pitmountainpony · 16/06/2012 05:57

Bad form rather than bad dorm.

jaggythistle · 16/06/2012 06:04

up for another poop and feed...

we made them ourselves last time, we have quite a good photo printer. i think we actually did print the inside! job for DH i think.

DS1's scribbles are not especially decorative yet! Grin he's 2.9 and gets a bit carried away, or bored after drawing one snake line.

thanks all. i got another big pile of gifts delivered by DH's parents recently which are still sitting there looking at me since we opened them!

i will officially chill and make a photo card as planned. :)

I would not expect a baby present thank you card/letter as I know how hectic things are and some people are not that organised early on, a letter/card with picture is lovely, a text to acknowledge is fine but nothing is rude. We made a letter with a few pics on the computer so only had to write in names so really didn't take long. I would say usually a month but 2 months is ok for new babies really.

I went to a wedding very early May and was only invited in the evening which was fine in itself, it was 50 miles away, there was no food for evening people as they served a hog roast at 5pm instead, the drinks were £6 each. I bought them a gift voucher and still hven't even had a text or e-mail to say thanks for coming let alone thanks for present.

She has had time to send out links to her photos though!
