Who was looking at the same dress as you and chatting to her friend and told you it would suit you, I'm sorry it was me and I upset you, you couldn't have looked more unimpressed if you'd tried.
The trouble is I work in retail and it comes as second nature to chat to people, I just forgot about boundaries for a second.
Sorry I won't do it again, I'm embarrassed.

It's funny, when I realised I'd put this in AIBU by mistake I was convinced I'd get pages of 'what right have you to foist your dubious opinions on to the general public, you judgemental witch'. I'm pleasantly surprised by your pretty convincing vote for random positive commenting.

I read this as "oo suits you sir, ooh suits you". You didnt say it like that did you op? if so yanbu even though you meant to post in chat. You are being a lovely and polite lady and she sounds a bit ungrateful. Tbh Im not very good at unexpected compliments takes me an age to get my brain into gear by which time theyve left thinking Im a mardy cow. I bet when she thought about she was really chuffed and wished shed reacted better. Have a you deserve it for being nice. I like nice people. Nice is the way to go!

I have been known to tell women in the street they look amazing / compliment hair, I nomally preface it with "I hope you won't mind me saying..." Always been really well received so far 🙂. Makes me feel good paying a compliment and hopefully brightens their day 🤞

I’ve bought a dress based on a fellow shopper telling me it looked good! So I would think it was a lovely compliment. Sometimes it’s nice to have an opinion from someone with no ‘investment’ in the situation.

I once made the mistake of wearing a red t-shirt to Target in the US.

Many people stopped me and asked me what aisle they could find various items in.

However, I was able to tell them. What a saddo.
