To feel so sorry for this orphan dog - and not know what to do with her?

We popped out to the pub tonight for a drink, and an elderly man collapsed in the bar.

He was in a bad way and he was taken in the ambulance - leaving his lovely dog behind.

We offered to take her home with us to look after her for him and then later found out he'd sadly died :(

Well, she's here, she's gorgeous, she's very big and now very lively!

She's not long come back from a walk. She's had some biscuits, but she just can't settle down, bless her. She's panting, going up and down the stairs, and being entirely adorable but I'm not sure when I'll actually get any sleep.

Any suggestions? She's a black lab. And she can't keep still :)

Awww, thanks everyone.

She's gone now. The man's neighbour called and said she would take her (she sounded really nervous, I think she expected me to have laid claim to her!)

I met the neighbour half way between our homes. I'll admit it was a little bit emotional :)

Then the lady sent me a text saying she must have enjoyed staying with us as she kept looking back at me as they walked away.

So wish I could have kept her but it wouldn't have been fair on our dog.

Although it was a horrible situation, it was lovely to look after her for the night.

such a nice thing to do!! I'll bet she loved her visit.

Well done for stepping in.

That was really, really nice of you, so good to hear there are decent people like you out there....

What a lovely thing to read (not that the poor man died of course) but that you were there to care for his dog. That would mean so much to him to know that. Im so glad that you were there for her.

Have you tried lying on the sofa , then pat next to you and see if she will climb on and settle with you . I did this when i looked after a friends dog for the night , she got very stressed too . When i laid down on the sofa with a blanket and said 'come on ' she climbed on and snuggled up and went to sleep . Bit of a pain in the arse , but we both did get some sleep .

Thanks Frumpet, I did try that but she was rather overweight and struggled to get up (and there then wouldn't have been much room for me on the sofa!)

She's gone now, to a new home :)
