AIBU to think it is really sad that this blog has had to close down. It is written by 9 yr old Martha about her school dinners. She posts photos about her meals and other school children send in photos of theirs.

I really enjoyed reading it, but the school didn't like the adverse publicity Sad

I don't imagine they liked kids with cameras in school either.

Staff aren't allowed cameras in my DS's school so I can't see kids being allowed them either.

Hi,
Veg?s Dad, Dave, here. I felt it?s important to add a few bits of info to the blog tonight. Martha?s school have been brilliant and supportive from the beginning and I?d like to thank them all. I contacted Argyll and Bute Council when Martha told me what happened at school today and they told me it was their decision to ban Martha?s photography.

It is a shame that a blog that today went through 2 million hits, which has inspired debates at home and abroad and raised nearly £2000 for charity is forced to end.

I think she was allowed the camera as the blog was part of a writing project. But then the blog went viral and the school lunches were under the spotlight.

I should think that quite a few schools would hate these sorts of photos being publicised so widely.

But it's only the photography that's been banned, not the blog?

figwit · 14/06/2012 21:54

Hello Martha's Dad. Good to hear that about the school.

Do you think Martha could keep the blog going to show the photos that she is sent or is it all a bit too sensitive at the moment?

You must be very proud of her- the blog was wonderful and she raised a lot of money Smile

I thought it was a brilliant blog, I loved reading about lunches from around the world as well as the very articulate posts from Martha herself. Pat on the back there Dave!

Typical of the authorities to take such a po-faced viewpoint however they should be more embarrassed by the prisoner style trays they serve the food on and their general attitude towards feeding children. I did like the Finnish idea of free school meals for all and healthy ones at that.

Why should they be embarrassed by the trays?

They're perfect for holding two courses and a drink Confused

When I was a kid (because I'm ancient) we used to have a heavy china plate for our main course and someone would always drop theres...to loud embarrassing cheers from the whole dining hall.

Then, we'd have to go back up for another heavy china plate to carry the dessert.

There were far too many accidents and trips to A&E for stitches!

TwoIfBySea · 15/06/2012 03:00

Crikey Worra, how accident prone was your school? I just wouldn't like to eat my food off a tray like that, dessert sloshing about right next to the main. How are kids supposed to learn table manners? They could always use plastic or melamine plates.

I always remember the dinner ladies at my primary school, they'd cook everything from scratch and it was always yum! No junk either, just good hearty Scottish fare (yes there is such a thing, the "everyone eats everything fried" is nonsense.) We also had a big jug of water in the centre of the table.

No spills and no accidents as far as I can recall (and I'd have remembered that for sure!)

Congratulations to Martha and Dave on a great blog, I hope they continue but without the photos. They are bringing together children all over the world and also raising money for a very good cause.

I think the children of Argyll and Bute would probably be far better fed if they were in prison. A comparison of average meal costs for schools and prisons would be interesting but I haven't been able to find that information.

The list of the council spend by category is here though.

Please keep fighting for freedom of speech Martha and to show what the elected council is providing for its children.

You have already achieved so much but there is a way to go yet until all the children of the UK get a tasty, filling and nutritious school lunch at a reasonable price.

looks like Martha's blog might be back
