to think it doesn't take an hour to write a cheque?

DD is at her dad's tonight. She got the bus after school and I am going round to drop her things off. Last week he text me to say that the cheque (divorce settlement) would be ready on Tuesday. I wasn't sure quite how he planned to get it to me, but thought if he didn't post it I would ask to collect it this evening.

So I've just text him and said "I'm coming over to drop DD's things off, could I please collect the cheque?"

He replied immediately, "Need to write it, wait an hour please"

I know it's got a lot of noughts on it Grin but it doesn't take an hour to write a cheque, even so!! I know he is home because DD had just let me know that they are back from her music lesson.

It's all about control, I think...because he begrudges every penny and now I have to go out at 9pm instead of getting my pjs on by 8pm as I usually do :)

Anyway, I will have it in my hands in an hour's time, hopefully!

Has he not heard of internet banking? Sad

YANBU

Probably doesn't know where his cheque book is

Let him be petty if it makes him feel better, at least he's paying up and you're not married to him anymore Grin

I have it...and it was handed over with such a begrudging look!

People still write checks nowadays? I haven't written one for years!

LucieMay · 14/06/2012 22:23

Or cheques! What the frig am I doing using the American spelling?!

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2012 22:24

I thought it would all go through the solicitors like when you move house?

BelRowley · 15/06/2012 08:46

Maybe he's lost his cheque book not having used it since the dark ages and needs some time to find it?

cozietoesie · 15/06/2012 10:07

You can't do internet transfers on private accounts for large numbers of zeros (good for you, OP.) At least you can't on mine. (Money laundering regulations - I think the max is less than £10,000?)

If he's anything like me, the cheque book will be buried in the wardrobe and not findable for a bit. And yes - there's likely a control thing going on. A division of assets cheque is so very final.

Good luck when you get it thornbury - and for the future.

Jins · 15/06/2012 10:26

Might need to do some transfers from other accounts?

cozietoesie · 15/06/2012 10:30

Maybe so - but I had to write a largeish cheque to the ex last year and I tell you - it took a whole weekend to find the cheque book. It's one of those things that you always think that you've seen around somewhere but can't actually find when you need it.

Haven't written another one since so I'm doomed again if I need to use it. No idea where it is now.
