AIBU to expect dh work to put in a 2nd line?

First day off in weeks & I can't make any phone calls until at least 1pm because dh is on conference calls. DH works from home 60% of the time, but because he has the option to go into the office full time they won't give us a 2nd line.
It really is becoming a pain in the arse! Especially when dh tends to be home the same day as me WWYD?

Mobile?

OfMiceandCats · 14/06/2012 09:43

What about him using a mobile for his conference calls?

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 14/06/2012 09:49

Yep, this is why the guys at work here have mobile phones.

pugsandseals · 14/06/2012 09:49

He gets free conference calls but only from a landline. Mobile costs would be huge for the kind of stupidly long union helpline calls I need to make today!
How much for a second line? I have no idea but imagine it would run into £100's!!!

Use say no to 0870 to find a geographical (01 or 02) number that you can call, which will be cheaper for your mobile.

redskyatnight · 14/06/2012 09:54

If DH is working at home for his convenience I don't think his company is obliged to pay for a 2nd line (sorry!).

Can you use a mobile yourself for your calls, or just work round him (do you really have loads of calls you have to make?)

WorraLiberty · 14/06/2012 09:57

I think the cost of a 2nd phone line is around £130

pugsandseals · 14/06/2012 10:01

It annoys me because he could have a works blackberry but refuses to!
It's just bloody annoying

Could they not use skype?

cmt1375 · 14/06/2012 10:04

investigate having a VOIP phone, it connects to your internet, you can use a normal phone through a junction box, it can have a geographic number just like a land line, try voiptalk we pay about £4 a month and it had little or no set up cost

pugsandseals · 14/06/2012 10:11

Ooh sounds like a good idea! Off to investigate

Redexpat
That would involve a company that wastes thousands of pounds supporting an ailing football club moving into the 21st century!

YABU, he is chosing to work from home and this should be part of weighing up whether to do that or not. Pay for your own second line or use a mobile or wait until later or email instead or get dh to go into his office.

Trills · 14/06/2012 10:39

He refuses to have a blackberry that he could use for these calls?

Sounds as if the problem that is preventing you using your phone is not his work but HIM.
