To think I could never earn as much.....

..... As I do now if I take a few years out to be a SAHM.

I'd LOVE to stay at home until DS goes to school, could afford this on DPs wage but I want a career of my own once DS is at school.

Current industry does not take kindly to career breaks. I earn 80k at present.

AIBU to think there's not a hope in hell of me retraining as something else when off and expect to earn this (eventually) again, and before I'm due to retire (I'm 30).

Not looking for people to slate my salary, just opine whether or not I could consider this.....I've pretty much ruled it out.....

Have you been a SAHM for any of the last two years? (Apart from the first few weeks/months after your DS was born.)

The reason I ask is, if you're earning 80k whilst still in your twenties, you're probably an ambitious, driven person. While the prospect of being there full time for your child probably sounds very appealing, would the reality of being at home 24/7 really work for you? It's not necessarily as easy or rewarding as you might expect, although of course many people do find it so. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

I'm an ex-medium flying career woman turned SAHM, and although I know you're not asking for advice on whether to become a SAHM, thought I'd mention something I do actually have experience of.

Cross posted with Married (slow typist) and she's right - two parents working long hours in high pressure jobs don't make for a happy family life. Which is the main reason why I gave up my job in the first place, so thanks for the reminder, Married Wink.

So, the upshot is - no, you probably won't earn such a high salary again, but you may have a happier family life.
