When my kids are younger, it really upset me that my Dh/Dp didn't bother to think to take the kids to get me something for Mother's Day.... As "I wasn't their Mother"... TRUE... but little kids can't...

I would just take the kids shopping, ($ store), or encourage them to make something for him...

It just teaches the kids to appreciate Father's Day...

I ended up getting my older kids to take them shopping for me, as kids love surprising their parents.

Do you kids make things at school???? If so..that would be good enough...

I would also just do a card for butthead... Because he wouldn't be a FATHER without you!!!!!

If Mother's day is important to you as a tradition you would like your children (or your DP/DH) to recognise you need to set the tradition. And the way you do that is by making a big thing about Father's Day with your children so that he knows what to do when Mother's Day comes round again. Maybe Mother's Day and Father's Day wasn't/isn't a big thing in his family. So start the tradition yourself, by the example you set if it's what you want.

Scrambled what is the hairdryer treatment?

YABVU and childish to not do anything because he didn't for Mothering Sunday, but YANBU to not do a lot, as he isn't your father.
You've already said your dc will make a card at Nursery. So he'll have a card from his dc. Sorted. No reason for you to do more if it's not a big thing in your house.

What hurts is that I will always make a fuss of the day for DS's sake.
I couldn't ignore it
Why couldn't he do that for me

Hairdryer treatment = cartoon-style rant where the recipient's hair is blown back by the force of your words.

Of course I really didn't do that. I just let DH know how disappointed I was that as soon as we had a child together he started treating me like his mother, but not showing me the appreciation that I he accorded her. And that as I had no intention of being intimate with a man-child he had better change his attitude, fast.

Anyway, as I'm a sentimental type he always gets cards and presents from his DD (age 2) for birthdays/Xmas etc and he does the same for me too now. It's become our family tradition.

I was tempted to get DH what he got me for mothers day from the DS's (ie nothing) but decided to rise above it and place a geeting in the local paper. He hasn't even noticed it [sceptical]

Note to self, next time you cut and paste an emoticon, do the right bit!
