At the supermarket with 6mo ds. It was freezing outside so brought him in in his Carseat with blanket on.

I had his seat belted into one of those seat carriers on top of the trolly..

Walking around when this lady walks up to me, she pulls ds's blanket off and says "may I?" I say "sorry what?" taking the blanket. She then says "just a wee cuddle love" and starts to un buckle him. I reply "sorry it's too cold to get him out" and quickly walk away.

I was in shock! Would you ever do this? She was left standing there on her own as I hurried away and I felt very rude.

Was Ibu to not let this lady have a quick cuddle?

There might not be any harm in letting her have a cuddle but then again, someone with boundary issues like that might not want to give your baby back.

You just don't know so you did well to avoid the situation altogether, even if it did make you feel bad.

Yeah what would you have done if she'd walked off quickly? Or dropped him?

YANBU.

I'd have done the same - one of the reasons I still carry my very heavy 8 month old in her sling most of the time. There's no way anyone can just grab her for a cuddle! When DS1 was little, a Chinese man walked up to him, pulled his nappy forward, saw that he was a boy and then started chatting to him/rubbing his hair. We were a few steps away (pootling around a national property overseas) but by the time I got there, I nearly swung for him. I used to be ever so polite but now that I've got the little ones, I'm much happier being rude/pushy where they're concerned. Not doing right by them would keep me awake more at night :)

Oh no, I wouldn't have let her have a cuddle, just in case she did walk off with him or drop him. Not when someone clearly has boundary issues. Absolutely not. You definitely did the right thing for sure.

Shock Definitely not normal behaviour!

YABU for even wondering if it's inappropriate!!!! How very odd- hope she doesn't come to the shops I shop at! Can't believe she actually started unbuckling!!!!
