DC's school canteen is going to be paid via a fingerprint reader - and they won't be able to leave the canteen to wash their hands after using the reader - so essentially 100's of kids will wipe their fingers on the same reader - then eat their food ...nice

If there is an error then they use pen and paper to note down the details and check on a database later that day - no child is left without food as a result.

Maybe it varies from school to school but that's certainly how it works at ds's school - I'm very supportive of the school in general but I'd be the first to be making a fuss if they left him with nothing to eat all day because of a computer error.

They wash their hands, then they touch the toilet door handle, then they touch the canteen door, then they touch their faces, then they touch the back of the chair as they pull it out, then each others' lunch boxes to see what they've all got, then their faces again.... do you really think you can counter all this?

What happens to children with skin conditions/cut fingers? I dread fingerprint tech because my fingerprints change quite often. I get eczema and dermatitis and at any time any of my fingers can be, well, scabby/split/bleeding and generally yukky. Not only does the scarring alter my prints, I wouldn't want to a) have to touch a pad that who knows how many other people have touched and b) for anyone else to have to touch it after I have. My hands are so not pretty and ooze, sorry tmi I know quite frequently I can't be the only person to have this.
