I was walking past a queue at the bus stop this morning when a bloke popped out to gurn at me and say 'Don't look so bloody miserable. It's not the end of the world'. Now, I don't expect random strangers to know my back-story when I'm walking down the street, or make allowances for it. But in fact, on top of a shitload of other serious problems, my Dad died recently. So recently that we haven't had the funeral yet. Why the buggering fuck should I have to pin on a smile just in case some bloke gets offended that I'm not delighted to see his dozy face?
Honestly, I thought I'd left this kind of shitty comment behind when I hit forty.

Ruby - you should have explained to him that your misery was down to a 'women's problem' and gone to town with a graphic description of some yukky symptoms.

He would then keep his head well down every time he saw your front door open.

I wonder if any of these morons actually think these little witticisms will help to brighten our day?

Thanks for the condolences, everyone. Appreciated.

Now that I recall it properly he said 'don't worry, love-it may never happen'.
I just ignored it, but do they imagine that horrible things never happen to people?
I was feeling too upset, but I rather wish I had challenged him and told that actually it had happened, so that he wouldn't have done anything so insensitive in future.

I just say, well actually I am in a lot of pain and it hurts to walk, so do excuse me for looking grumpy, I can't help it.

Sorry about your dad. Some people are just socially inept idiots. Bugs me too.

YANBU this is one of the most annoying, irritating, infuriating, etc etc that someone could say to me! And the next person that says it will be told that a tragedy has just befallen me ( whether it has or not) and we'll see what they have to say about that. Anyway, I bet he's got an ultra miserable life and this is all he can think of to say.

If people are really concerned that you look unhappy the best thing to do is smile at them to cheer them up not to make some inane comment.

I also get the 'you look pale are you alright' to which I want to reply 'oh piss off i'm probably a lot healthier than you'.
