...to not be happy that my DH has been invited to play golf on Father's Day?

MY DH has been invited to play golf with his brother and old school friends who are all fathers on Father's Day.

I am in 2 minds over whether this is a nice good thing as he loves playing golf and doesn't often get the chance, or whether he should spend the day with his DD instead? DD is just 2 and doesn't know what day of the week it is, let alone whether it is Father's Day!

Thoughts?

Fathers Day isn't about you....

MrsCampbellBlack · 12/06/2012 13:59

I always think Father's day is a bit made up anyway.

fruitysummer · 12/06/2012 14:02

My DH asked me if I minded if he worked on father's day this year.

Hell no, off you go darling. Get's me out of going for a crap meal at lunchtime Grin and I can just laze about on the sofa after i've walked the dog!

higgle · 12/06/2012 14:13

Father's Day is just a fabrication of american greetings card manufacturers - my own DH has always told our children that he will be very disapointed in them if they honour it!

LeFerret · 12/06/2012 14:18

By that logic I would be spending the day with my Dad, the children with their Dad, my sisters with our Dad, their children with their dad's and so on and so on... where does it end because this is turning out to be one hell of a big family outing!

lifesalongsong · 12/06/2012 14:18

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest, parents shouldn't need special days

YouOldSlag · 12/06/2012 14:23

YABU- it's a father's day treat. Just because he's not with his DD for a few hours doesn't invalidate it. Let him have some fun.

If my DH arranged a treat for me on Mother's Day I wouldn't turn it down so I could be with the kids for the 365th day in a row since last year.

DO you get to do your own thing on Mothering sunday?

TapDancingPimp · 12/06/2012 16:05

You know, take mum for granted but hey, once a year on mothers day we'll make her breakfast in bed and then the day after we're be back to treating her like a slave again.............that mentality makes no sense to me.

I've never thought of it like that before! Though I suppose you could look at it as 'yes, we know we treat you like shite most of the year, but we do appreciate it'. Dunno. I'm not a fan of either days.

TapDancingPimp · 12/06/2012 16:06

Appreciate you*

halcyondays · 12/06/2012 16:09

Isn't Father's day supposed to be when dads get a lie in and get to do more or less what they want?

lynniep · 12/06/2012 16:09

YABU.

roguepixie · 12/06/2012 16:12

It's Fathers Day ... the clue is in the title ... it's his day, let him do what he wants.

Tbh, I'm with Betty on this one.

2rebecca · 12/06/2012 16:12

yabu it's not kids day.

thisisyesterday · 12/06/2012 16:18

yabu

like you say, your daughter won't have any idea what father's day is anyway.
let him have a nice day out

EmmaCate · 12/06/2012 16:23

I think YABU... he should do what he likes. Nice as she is I expect a lot of parents of either gender would choose a day kicking back with their mates over having to look after a toddler.

parakeet · 12/06/2012 16:24

YABU

His day, his choice.

ComposHat · 12/06/2012 16:28

Fucking card company bollocks invented to fill a gap in their sales between Easter and Christmas.

Nevertheless, neither he or you are surgically attached to your daughter and should be able to spend a portion of your leisure time away from her.

mumeeee · 12/06/2012 19:30

It's Fathers Day not DDs day let him play.

Pandemoniaa · 12/06/2012 19:57

Fathers Day is a wholly manufactured event which exists to line the pockets of greeting card companies and any other retailer who cares to jump on the commercial bandwagon.

Also, as others have said, if this day is to be given special significance, shouldn't fathers be allowed to do something special? Even if it does mean playing golf. So yes, YABU especially as your child is far too young to know that Fathers Day exists at all.
