To have only just began to realise that people with no children use Mumsnet

Maybe I'm a bit slow (have been on here for a while) but have seen quite a few people on the various threads recently saying they don't have children. I don't think I even really heard about this website until I was pregnant with my daughter - or if I had it hadn't really registered with me. Not saying they shouldn't btw, just making an observation and wondering why the people with no kids do use it Smile

I came here following a friend's link to an AIBU and got stuck in.

We can't have kids, so it's lovely hearing about other people's. My DSis has 2 and they are wonderful, and it's made me appreciate her POV a lot more.

I have dc, but they have nothing to do with me MNing.

PanickingIdiot · 12/06/2012 13:16

I found it looking for info on contraception.

Mrsjay · 12/06/2012 13:18

TBH i don't know what i was looking for when i came here i know i left another forum because it was rubbish, I guess i was just looking to socialise and chat like most people do .

Of course people with no children use Mumsnet - I'm sure there are loads in pregnancy, TTC, adoption, etc sections. Are you only allowed to view those once you've proved yourself by having a test child?

In general, as someone who hasn't had children yet, I find Mumsnet absolutely fascinating. I'm full of all sorts of random pregnancy, birth, and child-rearing knowledge now Grin

It's interesting to see the wide variety of reasons people use it and why it's so popular. I was just being curious nosy really Smile

Another childless MNetter here - I've been on here for a couple of years, I guess! Started reading out of pure nosiness & now stay for the Feminism & Relationships boards. Also know far too many random/icky facts about child rearing which means that at least I can talk to my friends with children about all sorts of unexpected topics!

I don't have DC, and am not even all that convinced I want any - but I like MN because of the people. I stumbled on it when I googled for something not in any way related to children, liked the tone of the place, and stayed. :)

Because of where I live and what I do, my RL friend group is about 90% male and living a student lifestyle. I wouldn't miss my male friends for the world, they are fantastic people and great company, but they don't always have the same concerns and issues in life as I do. I come here for the company and advice of other women :)

You're right OP and not too unreasonable

And did you know there are also (gasp) men on here as well? Smile

KellyElly · 12/06/2012 15:00

SunRaysthruClouds I guessed that from the dadsnet bit Grin

There are a whole load of us who find our way here for support after miscarriage, relevant treatment and also trying to conceive. Then once here we tend to wander.

KellyElly · 12/06/2012 15:30

Well at least you are not calling me entitled Cockwomble Grin

I'm not a mother, but intend to be one day and I like to learn about something before getting irrevocably involved with it.

I do have a DP though and that makes the Relationships threads relevant plus I'm a nosey cow.
