In a nutshell, dd went to a party today, she bought home cake and now I'm craving cake. Don't want to bake one (even though I make a mean cake), so basically what cake should I buy? I have a M&S food and tesco a 10 min drive away and a waitrose 2 mins on foot. I really want an iced birthday cake but isnt it weird buying A birthday cake if there's not a birthday?

So just recommend a goooooood cake.

Golden syrup cake.

I know its too late now, but for future have you tried that microwave mug cake, my friend said the nutella one is gorgeous, effortless and takes about 5 mins so quicker than going to the shops.

Angel cake, or a bakewell tart. Not quite cake, I know, but just as good!

Tesco finest coconut lime cake, its divine, and only £2.50!

My very favourite thing is lemon meringue and I'm hopelessly addicted to the lemon meringue tarts in Asda - £1.50 for two. I nearly always just eat one and save the other for a minute or two much later. Just divine...

I shall have to bake cake now, as I have some fruit in the fridge that is going squishy. So instead of pineapple upside-down cake, it'll be pineapple, blueberry, strawberry, raspberry and blackberry upside-down cake.
If I ever get off MN...

ChitChatFlyingby · 11/06/2012 11:33

So.... did you buy the cake?

I was going to suggest going to Tesco and picking up one of the damaged birthday cakes (there's ALWAYS a damaged cake) and asking for a discount on it. That way you can get a birthday cake but you can justify it by saying it was a bargain. Grin

Yes!! I bought my cake! I went and got a small iced birthday cake from M&S and am about to enjoy a piece with a hot cup of coffee. The heating is on, I'm all warm and toasty in my socks...yummy! (can't believe it's june!)

ChitChat - I've done that! Except I don't ask them for a discount - they already have a section for damaged cakes. I once bought one of those massive Disney Princess Belle cakes for £3.00 because the doll's head had fallen off! Needless to say, DD was flipping happy that day!

There's just something about shop bought birthday cake. Especially M&S ones.

I really quite like ASDA's extra special coffee cake and their carrot cake.
You can also get a lovely sticky toffee caramely cake slice from M&S cafe.

I want cake now.
