to think the point of jumping in puddles is to get soaked?

Dd3 had been out this morning to church but I stayed at home with off colour dd2. It then rained all afternoon so when it stopped at 6.30 I took her out on her scooter. She was wearing long sleeved top, skirt and wellies and I was on my bike (to keep up with her and because I'm too lazy to walk). We've had a fab time. Some huge deep puddles for her to jump in (the pavement and edgle of road is in crap condition) AND ride the scooter through and she practiced a lot of safely crossing roads as she went from side to side to puddle to puddle. The road we used is very quiet - no cars the whole time we were out. Biggest hazard (apart from the cracks in the pavement) was a very rotund and slow basset hound being dragged along by bored teenager. She was soaked when we got home - splashes right up her back and her wellies sloshing with water Grin AIBU to think that's the point? There were very few people around but we did get glared at (twice) by a woman working in her front garden. For the life of me I can't think why? Maybe that was her natural expression? Surely you wouldn't be so killjoy to grudge a child jumping in a puddle? It's not cold, she was clearly having a whale of a time.

Of course that's the point! Why else do it?

BlackOutTheSun · 10/06/2012 20:03

That why puddles were made!

Northernlurker · 10/06/2012 20:04

THANK YOU, that's what I thought!

Why else would you do it?

Tee2072 · 10/06/2012 20:08

I have a theory that if all the world leaders had to jump in puddles together before any meeting they'd be having too much fun to disagree any more.

squeakytoy · 10/06/2012 20:10

You sound like a fab mum Grin

MaureenMLove · 10/06/2012 20:13

As a childminder, that was the absolute best game we played! Unlike others that moaned because it was raining, my minded kids used to love the rain if they were at Mo's house! I had loads of wellies just waiting for puddles. There is nothing better than getting totally soaked and then coming home for a hot chocolate and a snuggle!

I miss those times. Sad Just have one 16 year old of my own now, who would die if she got her extensions wet! Grin

It's great fun!!! Took my dd1 out puddle jumping all the time. Stuff the glares you had a great time and the dc enjoy the bath/ hot choc or hot milk and snuggle in their dressing gown almost as much as the puddles!!! Jump away :)

Grin She said she was 'very tired' at bedtime. No school tomorrow due to training day so nice relaxed evening and getting up late tomorrow Grin

Never forget when my Ds was little, Mum took him down the road to meet Grandad from work, (it had been raining all day), Grandad came home without them.

'Go look down by the car park' he said

There was Mum and Ds running back and forward in the biggest puddle, I dont know who was wetter Grin

Its my favourite memory of them together, especially as Mum died a few years later at only 58 from cancer.

ginmakesitallok · 10/06/2012 21:36

Either that or to soak other people....Grin

Brightspark1 · 10/06/2012 21:42

As far as I know skin is waterproof! It's one of life's great pleasures and I'm sad that my DCs are too old to give me an excuse.

OutInAllWeathers · 10/06/2012 21:46

Absolutely! That sounds such fun. I love puddle jumping and dread the day my 3 don't want to do it anymore!

DoesItComeInBlack · 10/06/2012 22:37

That is what rainy days are for, Jumping up and down in puddles and getting soaked, we did it on Friday and it was Fab!!!

Springforward · 10/06/2012 22:50

Oh yes. Even better, for some reason DS has got it into his head that they are called cuddles at the mo (bless).

takingiteasy · 10/06/2012 22:52

My son and I jumped in every puddle on the way home from school the other day. I forgot how fun it is!

quoteunquote · 10/06/2012 22:55

I still can't walk pass a puddle without jumping in it.

Pandemoniaa · 10/06/2012 23:00

One of the joys of being a grandmother is puddle jumping! Me and dgd love 'em!

Devora · 10/06/2012 23:01

Well yes, of course! And passers-by love watching them.

Having said that, I took my two out a couple of days ago for a spot of puddle-jumping on the way to the shops. I hadn't, though, reckoned on them sitting in puddles, rolling in puddles, dunking each other in puddles. They were absolutely soaked; my youngest was wearing a knitted dress that was carrying so much water it was dragged down almost to her ankles.

We couldn't go back home so I had to take them straight to the charity shop for a complete change of clothes for each Grin
