My mom and dad live in spain, so we very rarely get to see them except for big family events. I rang my mom to let her know we'd arranged a date t get our dd christened and she said "we can't come because I'm worried we'll loose the cat" apparently he didn't come home for 3days after the last time they came home to the uk.
AIBU to be really annoyed with her for that as a reason to not come?

it sounds like there is something they're not telling you OP.

Are they type to cover up so as not to worry anyone if they are unwell? Could their retirement investments have been hit by the recent financial turmoil, or had to bail your stepbrother out financially. Have you acted like an entitled brat once too often recently (not that I'm saying you would, just that you might have said something that's been totally misinterpreted.

My Mum's the type who doesn't want anyone "fussing" so I'd be on the first plane over to check up on her health with my own two eyes if she came up with an excuse like this.

I also think there's summat they aren't telling you. In your shoes I'd be concerned rather than cross.

bochead I think you may be right about them bailing my sb out. Having thought about all the responses this actually seems very likely as he can be a scrounging git at the best of times. I'm pretty sure I haven't been an entitled brat ever Hmm
I have been out a couple of times since they moved but not since early in my pregnancy with dd as I was quite ill through it all, and as dd is only 4 months we haven't been out with her yet

I think YANBU and it is a bit of a rubbish excuse. Surely the cat can go to a cattery or be minded by a friend or neighbour. But then I'm not an animal person so maybe I am missing something Confused

Can't they get a cat sitter or put it in kennels
