I mean, wtf is it exactly? I can't even articulate why I find the term so offensive, other than it just sounds really perjorative and patronising. Is this just me?

Nope, not just you. Horrible term.

WorraLiberty · 10/06/2012 13:31

It might be just you because I've never even heard of it?? Confused

Who says it and in what context?

Never ever heard of it. What does it mean? Is it women who are mothers and are in the pornography industry, or pornography that is used by women who are mothers?

ToryLovell · 10/06/2012 13:32

Clueless here too

HecateTrivia · 10/06/2012 13:33

It is a bit odd to specify though. It's like saying "daddy porn". Would anyone ever say that?

AgentZigzag · 10/06/2012 13:33

Net says it's 'steamy romance novels'.

Couldn't think of anything worse, but some people might like a bit of light reading if they're on their hols or something?

I don't think it's offensive as such, if they're mums reading porn it's just descriptive?

LynetteScavo · 10/06/2012 13:34

Never heard it before.

I'm currently struggling with "ear rape" As in "you've just ear rapped me" when someone has said something crude. And "eye raped". Hmm

WorraLiberty · 10/06/2012 13:36

I've just googled it and it seems to be a description of Erotic Novels

Here

AgentZigzag · 10/06/2012 13:37

FFS lynette Hmm just when you think you've heard everything...

Who comes up with this shit?

WorraLiberty · 10/06/2012 13:38

Anyway, now I know what it means, I don't find the phrase "Mommy Porn" offensive.

I just think it's incredibly twee and rather stupid.

GhostOfAWasp · 10/06/2012 13:39

It's a term generally applied to the 50 Shades trilogy and anything of that ilk. It just sounds so dismissive; like women over 25 reading erotica is funny?

OP posts:
Trills · 10/06/2012 13:39

YANBU Especially since the book they are generally talking about features no "mommies" whatsoever (unless you count the parents of the main characters).

iloveACK · 10/06/2012 13:40

I've just finished reading 50 Shades of Grey & that was the first I'd heard the term (with another mum commenting on me reading 'mummy porn'!)

Agree it's a horrible turn of phrase.

LynetteScavo · 10/06/2012 13:40

I know, AgentZigzag. It's my female boss who uses it.

Trills · 10/06/2012 13:41

IF you've read 50 Shades (or even if you haven't) this is hilarious.

iloveACK · 10/06/2012 13:47

I think that article is more annoying than the book itself Trills Grin.

LynetteScavo · 10/06/2012 13:47

I feel I am the only women on the planet who hasn't read 50 shades of grey.

Trills · 10/06/2012 13:49

Oh, I love that blog. I guess it's not to everyone's taste though.

bringmesunshine2009 · 10/06/2012 13:52

Don't do it lynette. You can never get that time back!

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 10/06/2012 13:53

YANBU. It's a grotesque phrase. And actually quite misogynistic, implying that a) women are all merely 'mommies', as if having a child somehow removes your identity and sexuality, and b) as if women having a sexual drive is in some way weird and giggle-worthy Hmm

The 50 Shades books aren't even that 'rude', and are a bit troubling on lots of levels (but sadly not a sexual one Grin)

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 10/06/2012 13:54

Lynette it would take you about 3 hours and would mean you at least knew what you weren't missing, if you see what I mean!

However don't expect to be turned on, unless being mildly spanked by a narcissist in stonewash jeans is your thing.

sensuallettuce · 10/06/2012 14:58

I am not Googling this. I Googled something off here the other day which was a photo of someone's vagina all blue and weird looking.

I am still recovering from the shock.

AmIthatbad · 10/06/2012 15:03

Anything that uses the term "Mommy" is instantly hateable to me., But I'm another one who has never heard it, nor have I read that book

AnyFucker · 10/06/2012 16:29

it's a patronising and ignorant term
