to think if Roy Hodgson took a lie detector test he would fail.

Lighthearted thread, I'm not that interested in football.

Just turned on MOTD to see end of RH interview. He was asked a question about Rio Ferdinand and started looking really shifty and sweating when answering. I'm no expert but I think he wasn't given the choice of putting RF in the squad at all (FA decision).

Not just high profile jobs. My old company had a policy that anyone being prosecuted would be on leave until the case was complete. They also kept the right to sack you for bringing the company into disrepute even if you weren't convicted but had behaved in a disreputable manner.
But footballers are a law unto themselves.

rhondajean · 09/06/2012 23:11

Thanks pip - kinda amplifies my point.

cantspel · 09/06/2012 23:13

No football has already judged john terry as he has been stripped of the armband.

The principle in law is innocent until proven guilty and yet Terry has already been punished by the loss of the armband. Even if he is found not guilty you wont be able to change the fact that due to the alegation he was judged.

For anyone whether they be a millon pound footballer or work on the tills in tesco the principle of innocent until proven should remain.

cantspel · 09/06/2012 23:16

pip i would like to see a company get away with sacking someone who was found not guilty.

Metabilis3 · 09/06/2012 23:21

@cantspel I think you will find that Scott Parker does play for one of the Big 4 English clubs, actually.

piprabbit · 09/06/2012 23:21

If the case became public, the name of the company was mentioned in the press and they felt that the way we had behaved brought them into disrepute, then they would sack us for gross misconduct.

It would then be up to the member of staff to pursue an appeal.

It's similar to the situation where they would sack people for looking at porn.

cantspel · 09/06/2012 23:24

not in my book he doesn't but then it all depends if you think Spurs are a top club.

I dont and Scottie only went there so he play for england. He would never have been selected if he stayed at west ham

Metabilis3 · 09/06/2012 23:26

Well, since they finished 4th this year yes I would say they are one of the top 4 cubs. Since its not down to your book but in fact down to the league table. HTH.

cantspel · 09/06/2012 23:27

Pip they could only sack you for looking at porn in work time. If you was on redtube knocking one out everynight at home then it would be none of their business.

If a case made the press and they were found not guilty then i cant see how they could claim the company was bought into disrepute.

BellaOfTheBalls · 09/06/2012 23:28

cantspel if you were to do something or be arrested for or questioned in connection with something that brought your company or workplace into disrepute yes you would be sacked or at the very least suspended.

cantspel · 09/06/2012 23:30

Metabilis3 a spurs fan by any chance?Grin

cantspel · 09/06/2012 23:33

suspended on full pay yes but sacked?

until a legal outcome i cant see any company putting themselves in that position. As soon as they was aquitted then they would have a claim for unfair dissmissal.

rhondajean · 10/06/2012 00:18

Suspended until the case is proved one way or another.

I do not understand why terry isn't.

Surely he also should be given the space from the public eye right now.

I know in mt job I'd be sent home til it was sorted.

forehead · 10/06/2012 07:25

John Terry is a thug . He will deffo get his just desserts in the end.

difficultpickle · 10/06/2012 10:00

A lot of companies would suspend you pending an investigation so the fact that JT hasn't been speaks volumes about the FA. Lou Saha was on the radio this morning and said that he thought RF was excluded for 'non-footballing reasons' without going into detail.

Apparently JT is injured and is borderline for tomorrow's game with an on-going hamstring injury. So it seems that the FA are putting their cards with him all for non-footballing reasons. I hope JT's injury means he cannot play and that will show everyone how appalling the FA management is.

Not so sure about the top 4 clubs having no good role models. Arsenal have some decent family men amongst their ranks, and I can't remember a scandal post Wenger. Steven Gerrard seems a nice guy, bu John Terry is an out and out wrong 'un, and so are half his family.
