To think this is a 4x4 hate crime..

because someone scrawled 'can't you park any closer' in felt pen on my driver's window in Sainsbury's today and pushed my mirror in? I am indignant because I had parked absolutely squarely between the lines, with a good 6 inches spare. The other vehicle was a huge van taking up at least as much room as my large 4x4. I'm not BU am I? Grrr.

Passenger side of the van not so much of a problem then if you're in the space. I now declare YWNBU!

MsKittyFane · 08/06/2012 19:44

YANBU BTW OP :o

Ponyofdoom · 08/06/2012 19:47

Well MsK I also HAD a Polo for work/shop runs but someone borrowed it and wrapped it round a post :-(

Was the space next to the van the only space left? Because if you only left enough room for a small woman to get through and there were other spaces available, then I can understand the van driver being a bit pissed off. But he shouldn't have scrawled on your window!

BumpingFuglies · 08/06/2012 19:50

Criminal damage, that's what it is! Whether or not you parked sensibly.

TheMonster · 08/06/2012 19:51

If you're skinny and could squeeze through then you can bet I wouldn't have fitted through. I'd have pushed the mirror in but not bothered with a note.

NovackNGood · 08/06/2012 19:51

WHy are you annoyed at the wing mirror being pushed in. That is what they are designed to be able to do. If you'd spent a little bit extra i bet you could have had them electric so that they moved to the parked position for you when you had parked so close that the other person needed a can opener to get out. Curious as to why park squarely when you could have given the driver's side more space as could the other drivers. If the spaces are tight passengers could get out before you enter the space after al they should b

scottishmummy · 08/06/2012 19:51

someone deface an inanimate car
not comparable to hate crime at all

OddBoots · 08/06/2012 19:52

I've never measured them but I don't think a 4x4 takes up any more room than a 7-seater. I feel really bad (and fold in my own wing mirrors) if I am in a carpark with small spaces with my 7-seater.

Ponyofdoom · 08/06/2012 19:54

There were some other spaces (not that many) but I ended up there as it was a drive though one IYSWIM; maneuvering my 4x4 is like steering a huge titanic like ship so I didnt fancy shunting around to find a better space.

OddBoots · 08/06/2012 19:54

To be fair, I think that depends on the age of the passengers, NovackNGood

~pictures the scene if toddlers/pre-schoolers were let out alone before parking up~

BumpingFuglies · 08/06/2012 19:54

Novack - really???

BumpingFuglies · 08/06/2012 19:55

scottish mummy - no it's not comparable to hate crime, but I don't think OP meant it seriously Smile

Ponyofdoom · 08/06/2012 19:55

Novack ther spaces are very small, there was no spare room within the lines, I had to park square to be within them. As I said the car is 16 years old that's why it doesnt have electric mirrors! I didnt buy it anyway it was sadly inherited.

minesapintofwine · 08/06/2012 19:56

umm Ive actually done this..well not directly on the window but on a piece of paper stuck on the window. and not on a 4 by 4. But I was well pissed off having to climb across the passenger seat I was pregnant and a seriously hormonal cow. Felt bad when dh (who i made put the sign on the screen) said they had a disabled badge Blush.

NovackNGood · 08/06/2012 19:57

Toddler pre-schoolers can usually easily shuffle across to use the doors on one side of the vehicle.

Ponyofdoom · 08/06/2012 19:59

Novack I am childfree so that wasnt an issue, there was simply no space within the lines to park differently.

zlist · 08/06/2012 20:05

Someone left a note on my windscreen once (pen and paper thankfully) telling me I had parked too close to their car. Like you, OP, I had parked squarely in the space and it was in fact them who had parked over the line - I simply chose to not 'pass on' their rubbish parking. I drive a small car though and didn't see it as a small car hate crime.

FeakAndWeeble · 08/06/2012 20:12

Oh I love the old manky work-worn 4x4s! I would love one, but it would become a Chealsea tractor because, unless I drive over someone else's field, I have no need for it.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 08/06/2012 20:39

Not everyone has a car which has foldable wing mirrors. YANBU.
You were parked properly.

Van driver was VU to write on your windscreen.

Mindyourownbusiness · 08/06/2012 20:53

Reminds me when I worked in a large office block with its own car park but not nearly enough spaces. God it was awful - an actual fight in the car park one day between two employees who had to be separated by security - both were sacked. Sometimes people would drive the wrong way round the car park to grab a space near the exit and then the person in front of them would go all the way round the right way and when they got to the 'empty' space lo and behold the person behind them had got it iyswim.

One day l got the last parking space (legitimately !) but the car on the right was overhanging this space which meant I could either drive over half a mile to the overflow car park which wasnt nearly as secure and was often full aswell and then walk back in pouring rain or take the space which meant l would have to park right up to the line (but not over it) on my left, so quite close to the car on that side. But as it was their passenger side I would be close to l figured they could always pull forward to let any passengers in. So l parked there.

Eight hours later returned to car to find 'Mr Intrusive' on the right had gone and so had 'Miss Passive Agressive' on my left leaving an anonymous sarky note on my windscreen saying 'Just wondered if you could have parked any closer?' Angry
I left a message on the staff notice board 'To my anonymous colleague'
They never came forward. God I was vexed. It is very provocative isnt it ?

Ponyofdoom · 08/06/2012 20:59

Thank you, I am now happy i was not BU. I really wish he had said it to my face! Feak; you would love my wagon then, it is utterly filthy, smelly, has off-road tyres, scraped paint, moss and lichen growing on it and is full of Farmy/Horsey Stuff!!
