Taking kids to Rock Concert

Has anyone ever done this? DW and I are getting tickets to see Muse in November. Our 2 DCs (8 and 10) would want to come (having heard them overplayed in the car they now rather like them and DS - bless - sings along like a scalded cat). DW thinks we shouldn't take them.

DW thinks it would be too loud, and too late. It's on a school night as well. I know I'm not being sensible, but has anyone else taken a child to a concert with loud music? We'd not be near to the front speakers natch.

I've seen plenty of kids at various gigs we've been to, and would recommend seats, yes people will stand as dance but theres not the pushing you can get with standing. Failing that, if you do get standing tickets, stay at the back. When the band come on everyone pushes forward anyway so there's always plenty space at the back ime

I started taking ds to festivals when he was 8 he has also been to 2concerts to see loud punky type people, do it do it do it!

As long as the reason your wife doesn't want them to go is because she wants a night to yourselves I see no issue with it.

I've been going to festivals since I was a bump...I went to Glastonbury when I was 3, WOMAD many many times throughout my childhood. LOVED IT! Me and my Dad when to V festival when I was 13 and it was amazing...apart from The Verve...they were shit. I was playing gigs of my own by that time though {cool kid band credentials}

Line up this year awesome IMO, so wish I could go :(

LucieMay · 08/06/2012 13:37

I know i wanted to go to Download this year too, have taken the niece before she's in the middle of her GCSEs this year so it was a no go Sad . In order to get the childcare for a festival, I always have to a child-swap with my sister for DS and DN.

DinahMoHum · 08/06/2012 13:43

unless its that your wife wants an adults night and doesnt feel able to say, then i dont see the problem really with taking them, although id give them the morning off school after

WhiteWidow · 08/06/2012 14:48

First time I went was with my mum in 2007 and missed my mocks. Oops. Couldn't afford if this year.

I'd get proper ear defenders for them. I have hearing loss in my left ear due to too many concerts as a teenager. I always protected my right ear and that one is fine - don't ask why I only protected one ear, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I used to work in the industry and most of the bands and crew use Peltor ear defenders when they bring their children along. The 10 year old may think he is too cool to wear them but I would encourage them, and perhaps have wearing them as a proviso of attending.

But, if your partner wants an adult night with just the two of you and no worries, then take them to a festival or something.

I am hoping to see them in November too!but we will have seats. Went to Wembley 2010...I wouldn't be standing with children, far too dangerous in my opinion, but seats should be ok. I was aghast at the amount of children at Leeds Festival when we went to see Muse there last August. Definitely not a good idea! Especially when the ground turned into vast river of mud.

By the way are you sure its a school night? Its half-term for us, which is why I can go! ( I am a TA).Grin

We are taking our 9 year old twins to the Stone Roses at Heaton Park. We have bought them padded headphones which were recommended to us. We are also taking earplugs as back-up. We are taking them to the Saturday night so they can have a lie-in on Sunday Smile Go for it! Can't you keep them off school the next day?
