To use cloth?

I already use cloth nappies, cloth wipes for dd and ds, cloth San-pro, so the next logical step is cloth toilet paper as loo paper just somehow seems wrong if I'm trying to be a bit more Eco conscious. But is this really really grim? I probably wouldn't use it for poo, and suspect that DH would not be interested so it's only me ATM, and would just chuck it into the nappy bin...

AIBU to even contemplate this?

Thank you for all the comments and links - helpful, and a nice warm bidet does sound like luxury! Graham, re the washing, I do cloth nappies anyway (thoroughly!) and the San pro does not get too yucky as I also have a mooncup but have not had to use it till last week since ds was born 15 months ago . Don't have a dishwasher though, so don't have to worry about the cat bowls. YUCK YUCK to loo brush in the dishwasher....just wrong.

Btw, I tried cloth today on wees only (sorry to anyone grossed out by this, hopefully you won't ever have to know IRL!), cut up terry squares, and it was very pleasant and rather easy to just chuck them in the nappy bin. My delicate nethers thanked me.....

you can get basically plumbed in toilet seats(later links), which turn your loo into a bidet,

Ds has cloth nappies and wipes - I will never go back to "normal" wipes but I'm not so keen on the nappies. I will confess then when I've run out of loo roll I've used one of the washable wipes and then threw it in the nappy bin. I don't really see the difference with adults using cloth wipes and using them on children but then again I don't end up with poo all over my arse and up my back because I've sat in it like ds does Hmm so paper will suffice.

And yes all his nappies and wipes get washed in the washing machine (and our cat bowls are washed in the dishwasher) Grin

Yes, it's pretty grim. Easiest way to cut down on waste is to move over to single sheet loo paper. I've saved a fortune since I switched to Sainsbury's Basic - mainly because it seems that people have an automatic 'length selection'. If you move to single from double, they still seem to select the same length (judging by the time it takes to replacement) but you're only using half the toilet paper.

I use reusable wipes on DS but DH is sceptical about them as he said he wouldn't use reusable toilet paper on himself! However, I wonder if they're more comfy - haven't tried them myself as I had no idea people even contemplated this until I recently read a similar thread on another forum.

Grin I started that thread too, dog... (Just outed myself, I guess!). In my experience of less than a day, it is more comfy.

Why don't u get one of those hose pipe things they have in Europe and Asia? Then you can be hygienic and Eco friendly. Wink.
