I think it's the music and him choking back the tears when she leaves for Uni or whatever. I never knew I had a soul Grin

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 05/06/2012 21:57

Dont say sorry nob. You werent to know Smile
I do really hate them though. I fume and shout odd things when they are on and the cat looks at me funny.

Snorbs · 05/06/2012 22:11

Stoopid advert. Made me all teary.

Passmethecrisps · 05/06/2012 22:14

I normally hate adverts which deliberately play on our vision of what a perfect family should look like and manipulate us to make us buy shit. However . . . This advert made me cry. I only saved my champagne-socialist soul by simperingly exclaiming to husband "spoiled bitch sniff"

The John Lewis advert did it too. I despise one particular advert - is I for Thomson holidays? From a dad's eye view where all his lovely, good natured and attractive family fawn over him because he took them on holiday.

midori1999 · 05/06/2012 22:29

We've only seen it once and my DH cried his eyes out. Our DD3 is the absolute apple of his eye (we lost DDs 1 and 2) and he has a tear in his eye every time she smiles at him, so this advert finished him off!

Huansagain · 05/06/2012 22:37

I'm a single-dad, I'm lying on the bed with my daughter watching Pirates of the Caribbean.

I shouldn't have watched that advert.

PorkyandBess · 05/06/2012 23:04

It made my husband cry.

He also cried at Gary Barlow programme about jubilee song, and Prince Charles' home movie programme!

LondonKitty · 05/06/2012 23:11

Makes me cry too. And the John Lewis one at Christmas had me in bits cos the little boy looks just like mine (minus the thoughtful, planned for in advance pressie, mind...).

NowThenWreck · 06/06/2012 08:49

Again-You Are All Being Very Unreasonable!
It can't just be me (and Mrs D but for different reasons)??

This advert makes me want to kick the telly in!
It just reminds me of all the perfect skinned, shiny haired 18 year old princesses invading the town in the cute little runabout Daddy bought them for getting 3 C's at A level, with their excruciating vowels and sense of entitlement...
She's going off to Uni! Whats' wrong with a fucking BIKE!!??

MorrisZapp · 06/06/2012 08:57

I don't cry at that either.

Quite apart from the whole 'new car for a teenager' thing, that dad is in denial if he thinks a safe car means a safe driving teen.

Give her til the end of the road, she'll be texting on roundabouts and ignoring the speed limit like a good 'un.

My dad bought me a bus pass :)

porcamiseria · 06/06/2012 11:41

yup, a little tear from me

SHAME!!!!

GiserableMitt · 06/06/2012 12:06

It reminds me that our family life is absolutely fuck all like that :(

It also reminds me that my Dad bought me a 2CV and not a Polo :o

MissPricklePants · 06/06/2012 12:09

I hate it as it just reminds me that my feckless ex chooses to have minimal involvement with dd so she will never have a proper relationship with him. It also reminds me that I need to pass my driving test within the next 12 months and I can't afford it!!

pinkthechaffinch · 06/06/2012 12:13

Why is it always the dad in these type of adverts. Why can't it be the mum being the pr0vider/rescuer for a change. Am also thinking of the incredibly irritATING natwest ones.

MissPricklePants · 06/06/2012 12:20

Oh I hate that natwest one too, for the same reason as I hate the VW one!

squoosh · 06/06/2012 12:21

Eeek hate that VW ad. I find the Dad inexplicably creepy.

newpup · 06/06/2012 13:16

I love it! Reminds me that my darling daddy loved me like that too and I cry because I miss him every day! And yes he did buy me a car for my 18th birthday.

Halfway · 06/06/2012 13:21

The most emotion-invoking commercial I've ever come across is this one:

Its not the VW one, but also to do with cars/family, gets me in tears every time. Smile

squoosh · 06/06/2012 13:28

That is beautifully choreographed Halfway

This ad always makes me well up even though it's a Hallmark ad, and even worse a sentimental American ad. Shock horror!

raindropsinmyhair · 06/06/2012 13:33

It mad me teary. The advert where a father emails his daughter throughout her life made me sob too. For me I think it's because my husband is such a lovely dad to our little girl (and boy!) whereas I don't have a relationship with my father at all would help if I knew where he was

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 06/06/2012 13:35

There are a lot of these stupid adverts about. There seems to have been a resurgence.
I blame that 'just keep talking' BT ad for starting the whole thing.

Halfway · 06/06/2012 13:44

Aww squoosh, that hit the tears button for me, but then I am ginormously pregnant. Maybe I'm a sop, but I love all these sentimental type commercials.
