to say this about p&c parking!

I know people get very het up about this subject on here, but I feel I have to say something about what happened today.

It was raining when we arrived at the supermarket and so DH dropped me off at the door so I could take the baby in his car seat to find a trolley and get inside so he wouldn't get too wet. He went off to park, and there are P&C spaces near the door so parked there. Now obviously he didn't have the baby with him, and as he got out of the car there were some people nearby who gave him proper daggers as they must have thought he was just taking the piss. We would benefit from the extra room when we returned together with the baby and all the shopping, so figured it was reasonable to use the space.

I was wondering if I would come home to find a thread bitching about a seemingly inconsiderate guy using a space meant for parents and children, seeing as folk do seem to go a bit batshit crazy when it comes to P&C parking!

The reason I posted this is to point out to all those who get very upset about the apparent improper use of P&C spaces that very often there will be a good reason, and people should just mind their own bloody business!

YANBU. But you may regret starting the thread. Sad

manicbmc · 05/06/2012 20:44

Not another one!

Buntingbunny · 05/06/2012 20:48

P&C parking is for anyone one who needs the extra width to get a child in and out of a car seat. You needed it to strap your DC's seat back in when you'd finished, therefore you get to park there.

P&C car parking can also be used by anyone needing the width for DCs with broken legs or any other SN that means they need room for a parents big arse to do up their seat belt.

Personally I don't mind P&C spaces being used by temporally disabled adults who need to open their doors wide to accommodate knee braces, crutches etc.

plantsitter · 05/06/2012 20:50

I bet if they put P&C spaces as far as possible away from the entrances noone would bother using them.

But I can't believe I'm contributing to a P&C parking thread...

facejacker · 05/06/2012 20:52

YANBU. It's the people who don't have child seats in their cars (thus clearly not having children) that get on my tits...

Buntingbunny · 05/06/2012 20:52

DC old enough to squeeze into their carseats without scratching my paint and able to do up their own straps do not need P&C spaces.

Driving a BMW, jag or other fancy company car does not give you the right to use P&C or worse still disabled spacesAngry

Morph2 · 05/06/2012 20:53

i've stopped parking in the P&C spaces at my local tesco as they have have about 3 of the little kiddie rides between the spaces and the shop door. I park so that i come at the door from the other side, its less hassle

Springforward · 05/06/2012 20:55

I used them when 38+ weeks pregnant and elephantine so I could keep my knees together when getting out of the car, which didn't make my back nag for the rest of the day. Go on, tell me how U I was....

So OP, I think YANBU at all!

Sparklingbrook · 05/06/2012 20:55

Everyone just stop it now. Angry

nightowlmostly · 05/06/2012 20:59

I'm sorry for starting another thread about this! I was just pissed of at the judgy people. I realised that many of the people on here getting the hump about people parking there when they seem to have no right may have got the wrong end of the stick and made someone like my DH feel uncomfortable and as if he needed to justify himself.

I park in P&C spaces regularly without kids. I will be judged.

Sparklingbrook · 05/06/2012 21:11

I never park in P&C spaces. Our town doesn't have any. Grin

scrablet · 05/06/2012 21:13

sparkling, stop what?

Sparklingbrook · 05/06/2012 21:14

Stop talking about P&C parking. Grin

AnnaFender · 05/06/2012 21:21

I have actually never contributed to one of these threads before, and can't believe I am starting now, but...today I noticed when you using one of these spaces (legitimately, I had two DC in car seats, so there) there was a massive sign detailing who could use them and that you could be fined for using them if you didn't have DC (under 12 and in car/booster seats) with you. Seriously, has anyone ever been fined for this and is it even really enforceable?

KateSpade · 05/06/2012 23:22

I dont understand why some people get so worked up about a parking space, i would rather find a space at the end of an Isle, so i have even more room to open my door wide.

But, yes, its a struggle with cars right next to you. Fine, move on. Lifes too short to get worked up over silly things.
