AIBU to be dreading 18 month sleep regression?

DS has always been a crap sleeper and until a week ago I would get up and BF and resettle quite a few times a night...midnight, 3am, 4.30am...and then up at 5.30am for the day. However, he has just started sleeping much better at 17.5 months and now goes til about 4.45am or even 5am without BF or me coming in.

He has always been noticeably worse during the danger times eg. 4 months, developmental leaps such as starting walking, crawling, etc etc. I keep heating about the mother of all sleep regressions at 18 months which can drag on til 21 months and is linked to language acquisition and a big brain development stage and am dreading it. Hear of babies waking up for hours at night, refusing to settle, wanting to play from 2am, refusing naps and so on.

After a year and a half of shit sleep and then recently getting more than 4 hours stretches, I am really, really dreading it going shit again - whilst doing everything I can to ensure good routine, tire him out, feed him up, and so on. Do all babies really go mad at 18months or is there hope. And have you any tips?

At 18 months, ds slept through for the first time and has been averagely good ever since.

I don't remember this TBH.

This didn't happen in our case - ds was always a bad sleeper but didn't get change at all at 18 months.

My 22mo is going through this at the moment so i know how you feel.
She has slept through the night except when ill from 3 wks but lately she wakes atleast 3 times in the night and im shattered.
She will not settle unless allowed into our bed until she drops off , i sometimes wonder whether i give in to easily and maybe controlled crying maybe the way forward.
I never had this problem with my other 3, and im starting to dread nightimes just like you op as she only settles for 2 hours at a time and when first put to bed she is a nightmare

DS is 15m and doesn't sleep through. He slept through at 10 weeks, regressed at 14w and was crap until 8m. Slept through again, then crawled, 9m regression (hell) then walked, plus bouts of teething and illness in between. He's been really awful these past few nights, I'm scared it's starting early! I know a few who regressed at 18m.
