to wonder why most Audi drivers seem to have their lights on in the daylight?

Sorry, another driving one.

Overactive light sensor, attention seeking, or "Get out of the way, plebs"? Smile

our porshe and audi have them, assumed it was a northern european safety thing. always used to it from sportsbikes

applepieinthesky · 03/06/2012 12:37

No they are not compulsory in Germany.

TalHotBlond · 03/06/2012 12:38

Mine come on by themselves and I usually forget about them tbh.

Lilliana · 03/06/2012 12:41

My Astra lights are on all the time, there is no option to turn them off. Made me Hmm when I got it. Also DH's motorbike has the same, but can understand more with bikes - it does make him more visible so I'm happy about that.

tethersend · 03/06/2012 12:44

A cowboy walks into a German car showroom and says

"Audi"

KenNEddieKennedy · 03/06/2012 12:49

I want to turn mine off because I feel a bit of a div in bright daylight. Not so on a usual dank UK day though. I'll have to try again.

hifi · 03/06/2012 13:06

I find them very intimidating, especially the evil looking Audi ones.

TheVermiciousKnid · 03/06/2012 13:09

Grin tethersend

I said to my husband yesterday: 'Don't fall off the ladder! Helpful.' Yes, I actually said 'helpful', but couldn't really express the bracketes in speech.

Anyway, what was this thread about again?

AUDI headlights are bright. I've seen a few with them on and they've dazzled me. How is that safer?

bringmesunshine2009 · 03/06/2012 13:12

Looks like a string of fairy lights draped across the bonnet. Envy

Hownoobrooncoo · 03/06/2012 13:16

Mine are on all the time, I drive a Volvo. It is safer, I notice cars a lot more and take note when theynhave their lights on. Also see many folk driving with no lights when it's quite dull and in the evenings with our long twilight. You definitely notice the cars with light more.

QODSaveOurGraciousQueen · 03/06/2012 13:18

I have an Audi, I DO put my lights on every morning in the school run as I have to do that weaving in and it of parked cars cos the feckers make the road a one lane road by parking in the "residents only between 9 and 11" spaces by the primary school I have to go by thing. sometimes I see near misses where someone has pulled in, not got their foot on brake, so they look parked, then they pull out as someone goes fund them as they were actually just waiting for the oncoming traffic to go by.
I feel it makes me obviously still trying to move moving

@theverniciouskid

"I said to my husband yesterday: 'Don't fall off the ladder! Helpful.' Yes, I actually said 'helpful', but couldn't really express the bracketes in speech."

Now I haven't said that when someone says something I like in public..yet :)

shushpenfold · 03/06/2012 13:43

All new cars (from 2011 according to DH )have to have automatic daytime running lights now....

TheCunningStunt · 03/06/2012 13:44

My year old vauxhall has DRL too

see here for more

TheCunningStunt · 03/06/2012 13:45

Your DH is correct shush

jubilucket · 03/06/2012 13:45

I hate Audi LED lights, they're totally dazzling. And that shape they make looks evil.

ObviouslyOblivious · 03/06/2012 14:02

I have a brand new VW Polo as a courtesy car at the moment and the lights are always on. Drives me crazy, I felt like a right tit when it was bright sunny 30 degrees last week....

Lizcat · 03/06/2012 14:19

Yup all new cars from last year had to have daylight running lights. Eventually it will be for everyone and finally it will stop the plonkers who go out in the fog and mist with no lights.

NUFC69 · 03/06/2012 16:54

My DH reckons that it is another case of Euro bureaucrats looking for things to fill their time. And it is obviously a waste of energy, too.

In the US certain roads are safer with lights on (eg desert roads), in which case there are signs telling you to put your lights on. Seems far more sensible to me.

Hownoobrooncoo · 03/06/2012 18:07

Folk will get used to it and stop moaning as it makes a lot of sense and IS safer. remember when seat belts came ito force, it felt weird belting up every time, folk complained and moaned - now it feels weird to not wear a seat belt and is second nature. You're just a bunch of moany auld biffers!

SwedishEdith · 03/06/2012 18:16

Agree that people just love to moan about change. I switch mine on most of the time now so I'm more easily seen. I get more pissed off at the amount of people who don't have any lights on on days like today so I'm glad more cars are being built with this being automatic.

holidaysarenice · 03/06/2012 18:32

The EU are planning to make it law that all cars here have to have their headlights on at all time! RAGE!!

SilentSinger · 03/06/2012 18:42

I have automatic headlights and they go on when it is very sunny as well as when light levels are low. I read somewhere that in bright sunlight having your lights on makes it easier for cars driving into the sun see you and therefore reduce accidents.

Hulababy · 03/06/2012 18:43

I have a Fiat 500 and my lights are on all the time.

DH has a Golf and has automatic light sensors so his come on a fair bit.
